1. Overview
An IoT device in an enterprise is often a fixed asset. Gateways, sensors, and controllers belong on the asset register, tied to purchasing, depreciation, and retirement. The asset management module on the SimtoLink Device Management Platform joins device identity to the asset record. Custom attributes, owning department, installation location, and maintenance records sit on the same device, so the IoT record and the financial asset are one picture.
The platform already serves manufacturers, energy companies, and transport operators. On a cloud-native architecture, each device has a full asset file for inventory, cost accounting, and compliance audit.
2. Core capabilities
Extended asset fields
A device can carry an asset number, purchase date, original value, useful life, and owner. Counts and where devices sit can be broken out by department, project, and region. When an asset is transferred or retired, the device status updates with it, so the register does not drift from the hardware.
Maintenance and depreciation
Each service, repair, and calibration is recorded with its time and what was done, which builds the device history. Depreciation can use the straight-line method or the units-of-production method, and the asset report exports for finance.
3. The asset path
4. Asset fields
The main groups of asset fields are below.
| Field group | Typical fields | Where it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Basics | Asset number, purchase date, original value, useful life | Asset register and financial accounting |
| Ownership | Owner, department, installation location | Inventory and tracing responsibility |
| Maintenance history | Maintenance, repair, and calibration records | Device health and warranty traceability |
| Depreciation | Straight-line, units of production, residual value | Financial statements and cost accounting |
5. Where teams use it
- Manufacturing. Line equipment and industrial gateways go on the asset register and stay linked to MES production data.
- Energy. Energy-storage and PV assets share operations records and depreciation accounting.
- Smart parks. Inventory, maintenance plans, and cost analysis for the equipment on the site.
6. What the program is worth
Asset management on the SimtoLink Device Management Platform keeps the device and the asset as one record. They meet at onboarding: a device that comes online creates its asset record, and going offline or being retired can change that status. Maintenance stays traceable, so the device history supports health analysis and warranty claims. Depreciation runs on a schedule, with straight-line and units-of-production methods for finance. Systems stay in sync: two-way exchange with ERP and EAM carries purchasing, depreciation, and retirement. Bulk import and export move an existing asset file onto the platform.

7. How to roll it out
Start by writing down which asset fields are required and which are extra. A device that comes online can create its asset record. A transfer or a retirement should update the device status at the same time. For ERP and EAM, set the sync rules and the field mapping. Inventory reports can be cut by department, region, or project, and read next to online status and device health when you look at utilization. SimtoLink configures the asset module and carries out the system integration.
