IoT SIMs for cross-border claim investigation

Claims survey · Site inspection · Loss assessment · Adjustment and fraud checks

1. What the adjuster sends from the loss site

Cross-border claim investigation covers claims survey, site inspection, loss assessment, adjustment, and fraud checks. Surveyors from multinational insurers, loss adjusters, and reinsurers take survey terminals, loss-assessment instruments, and drones to an overseas loss and have to reach the head-office claims system and claims-review platform while they are still on site. The SIM needs coverage in those countries, a connection that works as soon as the device powers on, and a path that keeps the file private.

SimtoLink supplies international IoT SIMs to multinational insurers, loss adjusters, and reinsurers. Coverage spans 200+ countries and regions and 600+ operator networks, as eSIM or physical SIM, for survey terminals, loss-assessment instruments, drones, and vehicle survey kits. One SIM works in more than one country, so the surveyor does not swap a local SIM at the border.

2. Motor, property, farms, and fraud files

The work splits across motor, property, cargo, and reinsurance. How fast the file has to move, and how heavy the photos are, are not the same in each line:

Motor surveys and adjustment on site

A motor surveyor photographs the scene, records video, and captures the VIN, then sends it to the adjustment system before leaving the road. The SIM keeps that handset online in more than one country for AI-assisted remote review, an actuarial read of the vehicle damage, and a pull of the vehicle history across borders. The file moves inside the time a cross-border claim is supposed to take.

Property and cargo loss assessment

Property and marine surveyors build the loss list and the valuation in a warehouse or at a port, and those files have to leave the site. The SIM keeps the surveyor online for a large report, a live session with head office, and a fast batch approval. That is the timing global property claims and the policy itself expect.

Drone survey and remote-sensing loss assessment

Agricultural surveys on farms and fisheries collect remote-sensing images where the road does not reach, and the loss judgment depends on those images getting out. The SIM keeps the field kit online so disaster images, GIS coordinates, and the loss model go back as they are captured. That is the record satellite remote-sensing claims and agricultural policy insurance need across borders.

Fraud checks and evidence

An investigator working an insurance-fraud file abroad has to reach the case system and upload what was collected. The SIM keeps that device online for ID photos, face checks, and a location stored with the evidence, so the chain stays intact. That is what fraud-control rules and cross-border insurance arbitration expect when evidence has to be preserved.

3. Data per device in the field

Each device uses about 100–500MB a month. Most of that is site photos and video, adjustment data and loss-adjuster reports, and live exchanges with the claims system and the review platform. Losses arrive without warning and in scattered places, so keep 20–30% headroom.

A storm week can fill one adjuster’s allowance while others sit idle. Pooling the SIMs absorbs that spike. The console reports use by country and by adjuster and flags anything unusual.

4. Photos, regulators, and a SIM that works on arrival

  • Claims files: Site photos and loss assessments are private and commercially sensitive. Send them on a private APN with TLS, and follow GDPR and the data rules of each country.
  • Insurance supervision: A cross-border survey has to meet local insurance supervision and reinsurance rules. The SIM is the compliant path for that file.
  • Sites in many countries: The surveyor crosses borders, so the device has to change networks on its own. Pricing is the same across those countries, and the bill is itemized.
  • Ready on arrival: A loss site does not wait for a setup wizard. The device has to work as soon as it is powered on, with no manual configuration.

5. What changes when the loss is in another country

Coverage runs to 200+ countries and regions and 600+ operators, so the survey kit takes the best local network at the loss. A shared pool absorbs a sudden burst across many adjusters. The whole kit sits in one SimtoLink console. A private APN keeps the claims file off the public internet.

6. From a roster of adjusters to a field test

Start with the team: how many surveyors, which countries they live in or travel to, monthly data, and how the kit talks to the claims system. From that, choose a single SIM or a shared pool, and pay-as-you-go or a monthly bundle. Test in the target countries before a wider rollout. Activate SIMs, set the APN, and bind devices in bulk on the SimtoLink platform. After go-live, alert on data use and inspect on a schedule.

SimtoLink already supplies SIMs to multinational insurers and loss adjusters. If you are connecting survey teams, contact SimtoLink for a plan built around the countries they actually visit.
