1. A collar that still has to report after the owner crosses a border
International pet tracking covers pet location, a geofence, health monitoring, cross-border travel, and a smart collar. Pet-tech makers and pet brands sell smart collars and pet trackers in many countries, and each one has to reach the pet platform while the animal is moving. The SIM is what keeps that collar online, so it has to work in every country on the trip, sit on a consumer tariff, and come up without a setup step.
SimtoLink supplies international IoT SIMs to pet-tech makers and pet brands. Coverage spans 200+ countries and regions and 600+ operator networks, as eSIM or physical SIM, for smart collars and pet trackers. One SIM stays in the collar when the pet travels with its owner.
2. The fix, the fence, the health log, and the trip
Pet tracking covers location, a geofence, and health monitoring.
Location and the trail
A GPS tracker reports a live position to the pet platform every 10–60 seconds, with trail playback and a lost-pet alert when the animal leaves its usual range. LBS fills in when GPS is weak indoors or in an underground garage, so the gap in the trail is shorter. A dog or cat report is usually under 200 bytes, and a month is 30–80MB, which is a low-cost IoT plan.
A geofence and the alert when it is crossed
The owner draws a geofence in the app as a polygon or a circle. When the pet leaves or enters, the tracker sends a boundary alert by app notification and SMS, then reports every 1–5 seconds until the animal is back inside. Fence settings can cover several areas and be shared with more than one person. On a trip the fence takes effect at the new place, so the alert still works wherever the collar has a network.
Health monitoring and activity
A higher-end tracker carries a three-axis accelerometer and a temperature sensor, and reports steps, calories, rest time, sleep quality, and temperature so the owner can see a trend. Activity is summed every 15 minutes, which keeps the cellular radio from waking on every step. A veterinary-grade unit can add heart rate and blood oxygen and push an abnormal reading to the vet. The same SIM returns that data from a clinic or a home in any country on the coverage list.
Travel with the pet
On a flight, a cruise, or a drive across a border, the tracker joins the best local operator after customs. The owner still sees the pet, and the SIM stays in the collar. A one-SIM, many-countries plan covers 200+ countries and regions on one published tariff, so the trip is not billed as roaming. An eSIM tracker is small enough for a very small cat or dog collar. At a pet-friendly hotel the fence and the alerts take effect at the new place with no setup.
3. Data per collar
Each tracker uses about 30–100MB a month. Most of that is position and the trail, plus the messages to the pet platform. The payload is small, so a shared pool fits a maker with many collars better than a plan sized for one device.
Several SIMs can share one pool, which matches a pet-tech maker whose use swings from collar to collar. The platform reports consumption by country and device and flags unusual use.
4. A consumer price, a trip, and a location that stays private
- A consumer tariff: A collar is sold to a household, so the plan has to be priced for that. SimtoLink offers pay-as-you-go and a monthly bundle.
- Travel: The collar has to change networks on its own when the pet crosses a border. Pricing is the same across those countries, and the bill is itemized.
- No setup: The SIM is in the device when it leaves the factory. The owner does not configure a network.
- Location privacy: Where a pet is also says where the owner is. Send it on a private APN with TLS, in line with GDPR.
5. What changes for a collar sold in many countries
Coverage spans 200+ countries and regions and 600+ operators. The tariff is priced for a consumer product. A shared data pool absorbs many collars. The SIM is in the device at the factory, so the owner never sees a network setting. Activation and the fleet sit in one SimtoLink console.
6. Before the first collar ships
Count devices, countries of sale, monthly data, and how the collar joins the pet platform. From that, choose a single SIM or a shared pool, and pay-as-you-go or a monthly bundle. Test in the countries you will actually sell into. Activate SIMs, set the APN, and bind devices in bulk on the SimtoLink platform. After go-live, alert on data use and inspect on a schedule.
SimtoLink already supplies pet-tech makers and pet brands. If you are connecting collars that travel, contact SimtoLink for a plan built around those markets.
