Product Overview and Engineering Role
The bridge maps objects between the TP/IP bus and building IP protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and MQTT. Lighting, shading, underfloor heating, and scene panels on KNX can then be scheduled together from energy management, a hotel PMS, or a resident app, without changing how the end modules are programmed.
Group addresses can be imported, an ETS project backup can be parsed, and status syncs both ways. The unit has bus isolation, a watchdog, and OTA. A point-mapping table template and a cloud-edge example are written for volume delivery of turnkey homes, so a developer or an integrator can lock acceptance items into the bid.
Reliability and Site Conditions
Electrical safety and EMC include the relevant salt-spray and vibration type tests. Ports have surge protection and reverse-polarity protection. Grounding is reinforced and the layout is partitioned, which holds down ground loops and common-mode noise. Outdoor and coastal sites can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.
Parameters import in bulk. Threshold policies and event or waveform recording depend on the model. Configuration and firmware move by OTA. Site acceptance is three steps: power-on self-test, communications time sync, and a sample check. For metering or safety use, SimtoLink can help with a third-party metrology submission and the type-test file.
Key Hardware Parameters
The table is the usual build, for selection and for a bid’s technical schedule. A wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe variant comes from the Hardware Specification and the Installation and Commissioning Guide. Order codes in the family can differ. The nameplate and the papers in the carton decide.
| Parameter | Specification | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | x86 quad-core | Fanless |
| Memory / storage | 8G/64G SSD | Industrial grade |
| Ethernet | 2×GbE | Redundant RSTP |
| Serial ports | 4× RS232/485, selectable | Isolation 2.5 kV |
| Wireless | LTE Cat.4 | External antenna |
| Protocol stack | Modbus/OPC UA/MQTT | Scalable |
| Operating temperature | -29~67 ℃ | Wide temperature |
| Power supply | DC 12~48V | Redundant terminals |
| Installation | Wall-mounted | Grounding required |
| Security | Allow-list ACL | Signed firmware |
Typical Deployments
These are the placements this bridge shows up in when a scheme is chosen and the result is judged:
Turnkey homes and smart communities
Whole-home KNX scenes meet the community cloud: away mode, elevator-call interlock, and an energy dashboard. The gateway does the protocol translation and keeps a local policy when the link is down.
Hotels and long-stay apartments
The guest-room RCU ties into the PMS, the door lock, and the keycard power switch. Gateways sit together in the low-voltage room, so each room does not need its own SDK integration.
Office lighting groups
Works with a BACnet chiller plant, blinds, and occupancy sensors for green-building sub-metering and daylight harvesting. Schedules are issued from the EMS.
Installation, Grounding, and Maintenance
- Confirm the supply range and polarity before power is applied. If the feed is uncertain, measure bus voltage and breaker rating with a multimeter.
- Communications stay on shielded twisted pair, grounded at one end, and not lashed for a long run beside high-power cables.
- Prove bidirectional read and write, and a threshold trigger, against the platform in the lab before the bridge moves to site.
- An outdoor mount needs a drain and a way to breathe. Inspect sealing faces on a schedule, and keep lightning-ground resistance inside the local rule.
- Once the bridge is in service, spot-check samples and archive logs every 12 months.
Ordering, Documentation, and Support
A hardware specification, dimension drawings, a wiring table, and sample projects come with the inquiry. Volume orders can include a sample review and inspection at the plant. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the papers in the carton.
