Product Overview and Engineering Role
The node filters, correlates, and windows high-throughput event streams at the edge. Specs on this page are for picking a model, for a bid clause, and for a later spot check. Kafka, MQTT, and similar inlets land here. On a weak link, or one that is billed by the byte, aggregation, masking, and a quality check happen before anything goes north. Storage and the NIC queues are built for long continuous writes. Signed firmware and guidance on scaling out are what volume delivery and an SLA need.
Several gigabit Ethernet ports are the default, with RS485 or a fieldbus as an option, so the node can join an existing SCADA, a message bus, or an IoT platform. Stream-topology templates and northbound MQTT/Kafka examples come with it. A volume build can add enclosure silkscreen, harness length, and a back-pressure parameter pack.
Reliability and Site Conditions
Electrical safety and EMC include the relevant CCC test items. Ports have surge protection and reverse-polarity protection. Grounding is reinforced and the layout is partitioned, which holds down ground loops and common-mode noise. Outdoor and coastal sites can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.
Stream rules, windows, and back-pressure can be updated while the node is running, depending on the model. Runtime and configuration move by OTA. Site acceptance is three steps: power-on self-test, a throughput stress test, and a spot check of downstream subscriptions. For metering or safety use, SimtoLink can help with a third-party metrology submission and the type-test file.
Key Hardware Parameters
The table is the usual build, for selection and for a bid’s technical schedule. A wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe variant comes from the Hardware Specification and the Installation and Commissioning Guide. Order codes in the family can differ. The nameplate and the papers in the carton decide.
| Parameter | Specification | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | x86 or ARM, multi-core (by order code) | High-concurrency parsing and window calculation, not GPU training |
| Memory | 8~64 GB; ECC models optional | Huge pages and NUMA depend on the platform |
| Storage | Several NVMe drives; RAID optional | Plan write amplification and the retention period |
| Stream processing stack | Built-in CEP or rule engine, or a Flink-class component (by model) | Scale-out and partitioning can be set |
| Multimedia | No hardware decode, or a light decode (by build) | Video metadata can be split from the business stream |
| Containers and orchestration | Docker / K8s edge nodes (optional) | OTA and canary release |
| Network | Dual or quad GbE; 10GbE optional | PTP/IEEE 1588 depends on the NIC and driver |
| Operating temperature | -20~55 ℃ (typical) | Tied to NVMe and NIC cooling |
| Power supply | DC 12~48 V / AC 220 V (by model) | Redundant power can be fitted |
| Mechanical | 19-inch, DIN rail, or wall mount | Vibration and intake dust control depend on the site |
Typical Deployments
Four placements come up when the stream scheme is drawn and the payback is estimated:
Cleaning live telemetry on a line
Drop outliers, align, and downsample a high-rate process stream, so MES and the cloud subscribe to less.
Video metadata in front of the archive
Metadata and the recording index are built at the edge. The center only searches and keeps the long archive.
Connected vehicles at high concurrency
Rule-based routing and batch packing of reports from a large fleet, so the cellular link is used harder.
Masking and watermarks before data leaves
Field-level masking and audit marks are applied before the data is sent out, to meet the data-security policy.
Installation, Grounding, and Maintenance
- Confirm the supply range and polarity before power is applied. If the feed is uncertain, measure bus voltage and breaker rating with a multimeter.
- Communications stay on shielded twisted pair, grounded at one end, and not lashed for a long run beside high-power cables.
- Prove bidirectional read and write, and a threshold trigger, against the platform in the lab before the node moves to site.
- An outdoor mount needs a drain and a way to breathe. Inspect sealing faces on a schedule, and keep lightning-ground resistance inside the local rule.
- Once the node stays in service, every 6 months check disk space, backlog depth, and lag on the key consumer groups, and archive the logs.
Ordering, Documentation, and Support
A hardware specification, dimension drawings, a wiring table, and sample projects come with the inquiry. Volume orders can include a sample review and inspection at the plant. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the papers in the carton.
