Product overview and engineering role
The SimtoLink NB-IoT telecom-band gateway is for licensed carrier bands where the rate is very low, coverage has to reach deep, and the device count is large. RS485, pulse, and dry-contact inputs are gathered, then sent up over NB-IoT UDP/CoAP or the protocol the platform names. Depending on the model and the supply, it is the aggregation node for battery meters and smoke detectors.
eDRX and PSM policy templates, base-station attach diagnostics, and a batch provisioning flow are included. SimtoLink supplies a checklist for water and gas billing platforms, so meter makers and integrators can finish the carrier warehouse test and line up the on-air KPIs.
Reliability and field fit
This gateway has cleared the salt-spray and vibration type-test items that apply. Surge and reverse-polarity protection are on the ports. Ground is reinforced and the layout is zoned, which cuts ground-loop and common-mode risk. A higher protection grade and a corrosion-resistant coating are available for outdoor and coastal sites.
Parameters load in a batch. Threshold policies and, where the model has them, event video or waveform capture are supported. OTA covers configuration and firmware. The three site checks SimtoLink asks for are a power-on self-test, time sync on the link, and a sample reading. Metering and safety jobs can include a third-party metrology submission and type-test documents.
Key hardware parameters
The table is the typical hardware of this gateway, for a selection sheet or a tender clause. For a wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe explosion-proof build, ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification and the installation and commissioning guide. Small differences between order codes are settled by the nameplate and the documents that ship with the unit.

Typical applications
How this gateway usually shows up on a job, for selection and for judging the result:
Remote reading for water and gas
Terminals in pits and meter boxes send a daily or monthly reading over NB. On the concentrator side the gateway converts the protocol and caches while offline, so fewer site visits are needed.
Standalone smoke detectors and fire IoT
Large numbers of slow alarms and heartbeats ride operator NB coverage, filling gaps in underground garages and urban villages.
Manhole covers and bins
Very low duty-cycle readings and tilt events come back over NB. The gateway can aggregate a district and present one protocol.
Installation, grounding, and maintenance
- Check supply range and polarity, and if needed the bus voltage and breaker rating with a multimeter, before this gateway is powered.
- Shielded twisted pair, grounded at one end, is the communications cable. Keep it out of a long run bundled with high-power cable.
- The first platform session belongs in the lab: two-way read and write, plus a threshold trigger. Site comes after that.
- Outdoors, drain water and let air through. Inspect seals, and meet the local figure for lightning-ground resistance.
- For a gateway left in service, sample-check it and archive logs every 24 months.
Ordering, documentation, and support
A hardware specification, outline drawings, a wiring table, and an example project come with the gateway. Volume orders may include sample review and an inspector at the factory. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the accompanying documents.
