Product overview and engineering role

The SimtoLink RK3588 industrial edge computer is built for combined octa-core ARM and NPU work at the edge. Ratings on this page are there for selection, for a tender schedule, and for later spot checks. Several Ethernet ports and a full industrial interface set put a protocol gateway, light vision, and edge SCADA on one unit. Fanless and wide-voltage options cover both a cabinet and a field mount. The system image can ship with a container runtime and southbound driver packages already loaded. Signed firmware and OTA updates support volume delivery and remote maintenance.

Gigabit Ethernet and standard industrial connectors are the default, so the computer can join an existing SCADA system, an energy-management platform, or an IoT platform. SimtoLink supplies southbound point-table templates and northbound MQTT/HTTP push examples to shorten joint commissioning. Volume builds can add a silk-screened enclosure, a set cable length, a protocol map, and a calibration certificate.

Reliability and field fit

On electrical safety and EMC, the computer is tested to the IEC 61000-4 level-4 items that apply. Ports include surge and reverse-polarity protection. Reinforced grounding and a partitioned layout cut ground-loop and common-mode risk. Outdoor or coastal sites can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.

Software accepts a bulk parameter load, threshold policies, and event video or waveform capture where the ordered model supports them. Configuration and firmware can be updated over the air. Before sign-off on site, run a power-on self-test, sync time over the link, and check a sample. For metering or safety use, SimtoLink helps prepare a third-party metrology submission and supplies type-test documents.

Key hardware parameters

The table lists a typical RK3588 build, for engineering selection and for the technical schedule in a bid. For a wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe version, ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification and the installation and commissioning guide. Order codes in this family can differ in small ways; the nameplate and the papers shipped with the unit are the ones that count.

Typical applications

Four deployments that come up often, useful when you are shaping a design and judging payback:

Industrial protocol gateway

Modbus, OPC UA, and MQTT conversion, with point-table caching, so older equipment can reach the cloud and stay in its own zone.

Light vision and a turnstile

NPU tasks such as face recognition, PPE checks, and code reading, placed at access control, security screening, and beside the line.

Commercial display and signage

Several HDMI/DP outputs with local playback, so a scheduled loop and an emergency insert still run when the network is weak.

Field video and an IoT station

A low-power plan, a wide-temperature chassis, and solar power for edge recording and event upload.

Installation, grounding, and maintenance

  • Confirm the supply range and polarity before power-up. If the drawing is unclear, measure bus voltage and breaker rating with a multimeter.
  • Use shielded twisted pair for communications, ground the shield at one end, and keep it off long shared routes with high-power cables.
  • For the first connection, prove a two-way read and write and a threshold trip against the platform in the lab, then move the computer to site.
  • On an outdoor mount, give water a way out and air a way through. Recheck the sealing face. Lightning-earth resistance must meet the local code.
  • In long service, spot-check a sample and archive logs every 24 months.

Ordering, documentation, and support

SimtoLink can issue the hardware specification, outline drawings, a wiring table, and a sample project. Volume orders can include a sample review and an inspector on the factory floor. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the documents packed with the shipment.
