Product overview and engineering role
The SimtoLink SNMP to Modbus proxy sits in a cabinet or a low-voltage room and maps SNMP v2c/v3 OIDs to Modbus RTU/TCP registers. Power-and-environment gear, switches and routers, and UPS/PDU units that already speak SNMP can then be read and written the way a PLC or SCADA expects, without changing the device protocol stack.
Poll interval, an OID allow-list, Trap/Inform subscriptions, and an offline buffer can all be set. Northbound traffic can go to MQTT/HTTP and to energy or work-order platforms. SimtoLink supplies point-table templates, mapping samples, and a joint-commissioning case library. A volume project can agree a protocol-map deliverable and a signature-check policy, which shortens tender clarification and site acceptance.
Reliability and field fit
On electrical safety and EMC, the proxy is tested to the IEC 61000-4 level-4 items that apply. Ports include surge and reverse-polarity protection. Reinforced grounding and a partitioned layout reduce ground-loop and common-mode interference. A higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating are available for outdoor or coastal sites.
Parameters load in bulk, thresholds can be set, and event video or waveform capture is available where the ordered model supports it. Configuration and firmware update over the air. Sign-off on site is a power-on self-test, time sync on the link, and a sample check. For metering or safety use, SimtoLink helps prepare a third-party metrology submission and supplies type-test documents.
Key hardware parameters
Ratings below are a typical SNMP-to-Modbus build, for selection and for a technical schedule in a bid. For a wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe version, ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification and the installation and commissioning guide. Order codes in the family can differ slightly; the nameplate and the documents shipped with the unit govern.

Typical applications
Where this proxy usually goes, for selection and for judging the result:
Data halls and power-and-environment monitoring
PDUs, row power cabinets, and precision air conditioners that speak SNMP are mapped to Modbus registers. Local SCADA or an EMS polls them together, so environment alarms and energy sub-metering sit on one screen.
Plant network and power equipment
UPS units, optical cross-connects, and wireless controllers that only expose SNMP are gathered at the edge, then handed to the existing industrial master over Modbus, so fewer protocol drivers need upkeep.
Building energy management and integrator handover
When the BMS contract allows only Modbus on the southbound side, SNMP subsystems join through this proxy. Third-party joint commissioning is shorter, and the register cross-reference can be filed with the acceptance documents.
Installation, grounding, and maintenance
- Check the supply range and polarity before power is applied. Measure bus voltage and breaker rating if you are not sure of the drawing.
- Use shielded twisted pair, ground the shield at one end, and do not run it a long way in the same bundle as high-power cables.
- Prove a two-way read and write and a threshold trip with the platform in the lab before the proxy moves into the cabinet.
- Outdoors, leave a path for water and air. Recheck the seal. Lightning-earth resistance must meet the local code.
- While the proxy stays in service, spot-check a sample and archive logs every 6 months.
Ordering, documentation, and support
SimtoLink issues the hardware specification, outline drawings, a wiring table, and example projects. Volume orders can include a sample review and a factory inspection. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the papers packed with the unit.
