Product overview and engineering role

The SimtoLink time-series database edge appliance stores, compresses, and queries large OT/IT time series close to the source. The ratings on this page are there for selection, for a technical clause in a tender, and for a later spot check. A time-series database and an operations toolchain are preinstalled, with high write throughput, downsampling, and hot/cold tiering. Local search and reports still run when the network is down. The hardware is built around NVMe and redundant RAID, with ECC memory. Firmware signature check and a backup-and-restore playbook support volume delivery and long retention.

Gigabit and 10-gigabit Ethernet are standard, and serial and OPC industrial access are optional, so the appliance can sit on an existing SCADA, energy-management, or IoT platform. SimtoLink supplies a starter time-series template, sample backup and retention policies, and a note on the northbound bulk-export interface, which shortens joint debug. Volume jobs can include a disk and RAID wiring guide.

Reliability and field fit

Salt-spray and vibration type tests cover the electrical-safety and EMC items that apply. Ports include surge and reverse-polarity protection. Reinforced grounding and a partitioned layout cut ground-loop and common-mode risk. Outdoor or coastal sites can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.

Backup retention, replication, and WAL and compression settings can be tuned, depending on the model. System patches and minor database upgrades go out over the air. Acceptance on site is a power-on self-test, a disk SMART check, and a sample of replication lag. For metering or safety use, SimtoLink helps with a submission to a third-party metrology institute and supplies the type-test file.

Key hardware parameters

The table is a typical build of this appliance, for selection and for a technical clause in a tender. A wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe version is quoted separately; ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification and the installation and commissioning guide. Order codes in the family can differ slightly. The nameplate and the papers shipped with the appliance govern.

Parameter Specification Notes
CPU x86 server-class multi-core (by order code) Write and compression threads in parallel
Memory 32~128 GB ECC (typical) Tied to cache size and query concurrency
Storage NVMe RAID1 / extra drives Hot/cold tiering and retention can be set
Time-series database InfluxDB / TDengine and others preinstalled (by order code) Container or bare metal; backup playbook
Display / out of band Headless or IPMI-class management (by model) Operations and alarm path
Orchestration (optional) Docker / lightweight K8s Works with the monitoring and log stack
Network Dual GbE; 10GbE optional Plan bandwidth for northbound bulk export
Operating temperature 0~45 ℃ (server-room / rack); wide temperature on request Tied to disk and fan policy
Supply AC 220 V / DC 12~48 V (by model) Redundant PSU optional
Mechanical 19-inch short depth / rail Front service and wiring practice

Typical applications

Four forms this appliance usually takes, for design and for judging the return:

Plant OT time-series store

Vibration, temperature, and cycle data stay on site for a long time, for PHM and root-cause work, and the central warehouse carries less of that load.

Edge lake at a renewable plant

Inverter, pad-mount transformer, and weather readings are aggregated on site at one-second grain, uploaded in the policy window, with the raw grain kept for later checks.

Building and campus energy profile

Submetering and the effect of an HVAC policy, written up as trend reports and an anomaly baseline.

Smart-city indicator rollup

Sensors from several sources share one timeline and one set of metadata, for cross-department KPIs and for replaying an emergency command.

Installation, grounding, and maintenance

  • Confirm supply range and polarity before the appliance is powered. When needed, measure bus voltage and breaker rating with a multimeter.
  • Use shielded twisted pair, ground the shield at one end, and do not run it for a long distance bundled with high-power cable.
  • On the first connection, prove bidirectional read and write and a threshold trip against the platform in the lab, then move the appliance to site.
  • Outdoors, give the enclosure a drain path and a way to breathe. Inspect the seal face on rounds. Lightning-protection earth resistance has to meet the local code.
  • Every 6 months, check disk SMART, RAID status, and replication lag, and archive the logs.

Ordering, documentation, and support

SimtoLink can supply the hardware specification, outline drawings, a wiring table, and an example project for this appliance. Volume orders can include a sample review and inspection at the factory. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the papers shipped with the appliance.
