Smart Banking Connectivity

1. What a branch and an ATM send

Smart banking covers branches, ATMs, VTMs, and self-service terminals. Over 4G they send transaction data, device status, and remote-operations reports. SimtoLink gives banks 4G, a shared data pool, financial-grade security, and an API into the core banking system.

2. Branches, self-service, and the cash run

A withdrawal, a video teller session, and a cash replenishment do not ask the same thing of the link. Security is tightest on the cash machine. A camera can tolerate a short delay.

ATMs and cash

An ATM reports each transaction and its status over 4G, covering withdrawals, deposits, and transfers, with financial-grade encryption on the session.

VTMs and remote tellers

A VTM uses 4G for a remote teller, account opening, and wealth management, with a video session and an identity check.

Branch cameras

Cameras send video over 4G for security monitoring, behavior analysis, and a compliance record.

Faults and cash replenishment

Self-service machines report faults and cassette status over 4G, so a technician can diagnose from the desk and a cash run can be scheduled.

3. What the bank link has to do

  • Always on: ATMs, POS terminals, and other financial devices stay in service. Availability needs to reach 99.99%, and recovery is measured in seconds.
  • Financial-grade security: VPDN private lines, TLS 1.2 or later, mutual certificate authentication, and an IP allowlist, in line with China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission rules.
  • Transaction response: A terminal transaction needs a millisecond response. Keep latency within 50ms so the session does not time out.
  • Integrity: Transaction data needs an integrity check against man-in-the-middle attacks, and the audit log has to be kept in full.
  • Many branches, one platform: Branches go out nationwide in batches and need one operator platform for remote configuration and data-usage monitoring.

4. Which SIM fits which terminal

An ATM, a mobile POS, and a digital teller do not need the same private line. The table is a starting point:

UseRecommended networkWhy it fits
ATMs4G + VPDN private lineHigh-security transactions, cash handling, 7×24 operation
POS terminals / mobile payment devices4GReal-time payments, transaction reporting, mobile acquiring
Branch smart devices / digital teller machines4GVideo identity checks, service handling, queue management

5. How much data a terminal uses

One device typically uses about 100–500MB a month, mostly transactions and video. Pool SIMs by branch, keep 20%–30% spare, and pair VPDN with financial-grade encryption.

6. Security and compliance

Treat this as the highest security level. Banking moves funds, so deployments need PCI DSS, MLPS, a VPDN private network, China's national cryptographic algorithms, and an IP allowlist. SimtoLink provides financial-grade protection and completes real-name registration for the SIMs.

7. What SimtoLink would deploy

For ATMs, self-service terminals, and mobile bank vehicles, use a 4G IoT SIM. An ATM has to stay online around the clock, and a VPDN private network keeps the transaction off the public internet. SimtoLink plans for 99.9% network availability, VPDN, a shared data pool, and an API into the core banking system.

8. Putting branches on the network

Rollout:

Security assessment→ Carrier VPDN application→ Device selection and testing→ Network security acceptance→ Pilot→ Nationwide rollout

Size the plan to the branch type, and check coverage on the premises. Set VPDN and the APN, plus an IP allowlist, and alert at 80% of the data allowance. SimtoLink stays with the project from the first branch through the wider network. Contact us for a plan built around those sites.
