1. What a campus device sends
Smart campus covers electronic class boards, attendance and access control, security monitoring, and smart classrooms. Class boards, turnstiles, cameras, and recording equipment report over 4G. Electronic class boards publish timetables, notices, and campus culture. The campus one-card brings together attendance, access, payments, and library loans. Buildings are spread across the campus, and 4G is what covers them. SimtoLink gives schools 4G, a shared data pool, VPDN, and an API into the campus management platform.
2. Class boards, gates, cameras, and the recorder
A timetable update, a gate check, and a lesson recording do not ask the same thing of the link. A student at the turnstile has to be checked now. A showcase lesson can upload after class.
Class boards
Electronic class boards take timetables, notices, and campus-culture content over 4G, with a remote update and the same notice on more than one screen.
Attendance and the gate
Turnstiles and face-recognition gates send attendance and passage logs over 4G, with a link to leave requests and an alert when a passage looks wrong.
Cameras and the perimeter
Campus cameras send video over 4G for a perimeter intrusion, a watch on key areas, and an emergency link.
Classrooms and lesson recording
Recording equipment and electronic whiteboards report over 4G, for remote teaching, a showcase lesson, and an interactive class.
3. What the campus link has to do
- Spread across the campus: Buildings and classrooms are scattered. 4G connects class boards, access control, and canteen payment terminals where pulling cable is expensive.
- As it changes: Electronic class boards need timetables and notices as they change. Attendance and access control need an online check, and a leave request has to stay tied to the gate.
- Security and compliance: Student information and campus safety are in scope. A VPDN private network, TLS, and an IP allowlist are required, in line with education-sector rules.
- Video and monitoring: Perimeter protection, key-area monitoring, and emergency linkage need a video stream. Recording equipment has to support showcase-lesson capture.
- Platform connections: Link the smart-campus platform, the one-card system, and the academic system so attendance, payments, and leave requests stay in step. APIs close the data loop.
4. Which SIM fits which campus device
A class board and a camera do not need the same bandwidth. The table is a starting point:
| Use | Recommended network | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Electronic class boards, information publishing | 4G | Timetables and notices, remote updates |
| Attendance and access, face-recognition gates | 4G | Passage records, leave linkage, online checks |
| Security monitoring, video | 4G | Perimeter alarms, key areas, high bandwidth |
| Recording equipment, smart classrooms | 4G | Showcase-lesson recording, remote teaching, video stream |
5. How much data a campus device uses
One device typically uses about 100–500MB a month, and video is most of it. Pool SIMs by device type, keep 20%–30% spare, and use VPDN so student data stays off the public internet.
6. Security and compliance
Treat student information and campus safety as high security. A VPDN private network, TLS, and an IP allowlist are required. SimtoLink provides VPDN, a private APN, and completes real-name registration for the SIMs.
7. What SimtoLink would deploy
For electronic class boards, access control, and canteen payment terminals, use a 4G IoT SIM. A class board has to take a timetable as it changes, and a gate or payment terminal has to check the card while the student is standing there. SimtoLink plans for 99.9% network availability, a shared data pool, and an API into the smart-campus platform.
8. Putting a campus on cellular
Rollout:
Size the plan to the device, and check coverage on the campus. Set VPDN and the APN, plus an IP allowlist, and alert at 80% of the data allowance. SimtoLink stays with the project from the first building through the whole campus. Contact us for a plan built around those schools.
