Smart Construction Site Connectivity

1. What a site reports

Smart construction sites cover video, personnel positioning, tower crane and hoist monitoring, and dust and noise. Cameras, positioning terminals, sensors, and black boxes report over 4G. Sites are often remote and have no Wi-Fi, so 4G is what covers them. SimtoLink gives construction companies 4G, a shared data pool, and an API into the smart construction platform.

2. Cameras, workers, cranes, and dust

A hard-hat alert, a worker's track, and a dust reading do not ask the same thing of the link. An overload on the crane has to go out immediately. A monthly dust total can wait.

Video monitoring and AI recognition

Site cameras send video over 4G for hard-hat recognition, boundary alerts, and perimeter protection. One channel uses 200MB-1GB a month.

Personnel positioning and attendance

UWB/Bluetooth positioning tags report through a 4G gateway, for worker tracks, attendance totals, and hazardous-zone alerts.

Tower crane and hoist monitoring

Tower crane black boxes and hoist sensors report load, tilt angle, and height over 4G, for overload alerts and remote supervision.

Dust and noise monitoring

Dust and noise sensors report PM2.5 and noise levels over 4G, for environmental compliance and over-limit alerts.

3. What the site link has to do

  • Real-name management of site workers: Face recognition at the gate plus positioning, real-name check-in, and automatic attendance, to meet safety supervision rules.
  • Heavy equipment monitoring: Tower cranes, excavators, and other heavy machines report running parameters and position live. Boundary alerts keep the site safe.
  • HD security video: The site is covered by video. AI checks hard hats and safety harnesses and pushes a notice when someone is out of compliance.
  • Dust and noise: PM2.5, PM10, and noise sensors report live, alert when a limit is crossed, and trigger dust suppression, to meet environmental rules.
  • BIM and progress: Site data connects to the BIM platform for visual progress management and quality traceability.

4. Which SIM fits which site device

A gate reader and a dust station do not need the same radio. The table is a starting point:

UseRecommended networkWhy it fits

Dust / noise stationsNB-IoT/4GEnvironmental readings, linked over-limit alerts

5. How much data a site device uses

One device typically uses about 200MB–2GB a month, and video is most of it. Pool SIMs by device type, keep 20%–30% spare, and use VPDN to keep the link private.

6. Security and compliance

Treat site video and personnel data as high security. A VPDN private network, TLS, and an IP allowlist are required. SimtoLink provides VPDN, a private APN, and completes real-name registration for the SIMs.

7. What SimtoLink would deploy

For tower crane monitoring, dust monitoring, personnel positioning, and video, use a 4G IoT SIM. The site is messy and the signal shifts, so more than one operator matters, and video and positioning use a lot of data. SimtoLink plans for 99.9% network availability, multi-operator selection, large data plans, and an API into the smart construction platform.

8. Putting a site on cellular

Rollout:

Needs survey→ Site walk-through→ Install and commission→ Platform integration test→ Supervision acceptance→ Ongoing operations

Size the plan to the device, and check coverage on the site. Set VPDN and the APN, plus an IP allowlist, and alert at 80% of the data allowance. SimtoLink stays with the project from the first crane through daily operations. Contact us for a plan built around those sites.
