Worker safety, equipment monitoring, environmental monitoring, and progress management for a safer, more efficient site
This solution uses the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and big data to digitize the full construction process. Worker location, tower-crane monitoring, hoist safety, dust and noise, and video AI protect crews, standardize how work is done, and show site conditions and progress as they happen. Accident rates fall, and construction efficiency and quality management rise.
Construction has a high accident rate. Falls from height, machinery injuries, and struck-by incidents account for more than 80% of them. Housing and construction authorities require priority sites to connect to a smart-site supervision platform and report people, equipment, and environment data. UWB and Bluetooth give centimeter-level worker location, and geofences alarm at danger zones. Tower cranes carry a black box and an anti-collision system that read load, radius, height, and slew angle, and coordinate collision avoidance across cranes. Hoists monitor load and headcount, and face recognition limits who may operate them, so unlicensed operation stops. Dust, noise, and PM2.5 upload live, and a spray starts when a limit is crossed. Video AI flags missing hard hats, missing high-visibility vests, and boundary intrusions. The solution connects to government supervision platforms and meets local smart-site acceptance rules.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development's Guiding Opinions on Promoting Smart Construction Sites ask local governments to push intelligent site management, and priority sites must connect to the provincial smart-site supervision platform. Many regions require a smart site once floor area passes a set size—for example 10,000 m² or 30,000 m²—or when the project is government-funded. Supervision covers real-name labor registration and attendance, special-equipment safety, dust and noise, and video. Acceptance usually checks that data arrives complete, equipment runs stably, and the link to the supervision platform is compliant.
Ministry of Emergency Management figures show construction deaths are about 30% of deaths across industry, mining, and commerce. A smart site is a practical way to carry out work-safety duties. Some regions award bid points for a smart site, or make it mandatory. Firms that fall short risk a stop-work order until they correct it.
One large building project, about 200,000 m², deployed the solution for about RMB 800,000, covering worker location, tower-crane monitoring, hoist safety, dust and noise, and video AI. After go-live, the accident rate fell about 50% year on year, with zero casualties. Environmental fines fell from tens of thousands of yuan a year to zero. Labor disputes dropped because attendance can be traced. First-time pass rates on regulatory inspections rose clearly. Over a project life of about two years, the combined benefit—accidents avoided, fines avoided, and higher efficiency—can cover the investment. Smaller projects can start with modules, putting worker location and dust monitoring first, and keep the entry cost within RMB 200,000.
