Smart Energy Storage Solution

BMS and PCS monitoring, charge and discharge strategy, and second-life batteries, so more new energy can be used and the grid can shave peaks

Solution Overview

The smart energy storage solution gives storage plants, commercial and industrial sites, and home systems BMS monitoring, PCS operating data, charge and discharge strategy, and second-life battery management. Operations stay digital across the life of the system. As new-energy capacity grows quickly, storage is what smooths the swings, shifts energy from peak to valley, and answers demand response.

It is built on IoT and energy management. The battery management system reads cell voltage, current, state of charge, state of health, and temperature, watches battery health, and warns before a fault. Power-conversion data — power, efficiency, and the rest of the operating picture — lands on one platform for analysis and diagnosis. Charge and discharge can follow peak-valley arbitrage, demand response, or peak shaving and valley filling, and the strategy moves with tariff, load, and grid dispatch orders. The second-life module screens retired traction batteries, rebuilds packs, and runs them. It fits grid-side storage, storage paired with new energy, commercial and industrial storage, and home storage, and it is meant to make the system safer and more economic.

Policy and the market

The 14th Five-Year Plan implementation plan for new energy storage sets a 2025 target of more than 30 million kilowatts of new storage. Storage paired with new energy, commercial peak-valley arbitrage, and grid peak shaving and frequency regulation are what is driving the build-out. The National Energy Administration’s Interim Measures for the Safety Management of Electrochemical Energy Storage Power Stations, and related rules, require safety monitoring, fire linkage, and data reporting. A storage station has to connect to the provincial storage supervision platform, and BMS and PCS operating data have to be reported as they are produced.

On one 1 MWh commercial and industrial project, a tighter peak-valley strategy raised annual revenue by about 15%. An early battery warning stopped a thermal-runaway event that was still only a risk. Inspection efficiency rose by 50%. Once grid-side storage was on the supervision platform, the compliance requirement was met and dispatch response was more precise.

Core Capabilities

The work that keeps a storage system running

Battery monitoring

Voltage, current, state of charge, state of health, temperature, and internal resistance, at cell, module, and system level. Alarms and thermal-runaway warnings are included. Several BMS brands can connect.

Strategy

Peak-valley arbitrage, demand response, and peak shaving with valley filling. Charge and discharge follow the tariff curve, the load forecast, and grid dispatch orders. Strategies can be combined, and an operator can override them.

PCS operation

Power, efficiency, temperature, and fault codes from the converter, plus charge and discharge curves and operating reports. Linked with the BMS, this supports system-level diagnosis and maintenance decisions.

Safety warnings

Warnings for thermal runaway, overcharge, over-discharge, and internal short circuits. Fire systems can be linked and the plant can be stopped. Operating data is kept for incident tracing and insurance claims.

Typical Use Cases

Grid-side storage

Peak shaving, frequency regulation, black start, and storage paired with new energy

Storage with new energy

Solar plus storage, and wind plus storage, to smooth output

Commercial and industrial storage

Peak-valley arbitrage, demand management, and backup power

Home storage

Home solar plus storage, used on site

How the plant connects

Storage equipment and the energy management platform

BMS and PCS join over Modbus, CAN, or IEC 61850. An edge gateway gathers several devices and converts protocols. The energy management system and the grid dispatch platform can send strategies and receive reports. 4G, 5G, fiber, and utility private networks cover the sites this is deployed on.
