Smart Pharmacy Solutions

Drug management, prescription flow, and automated dispensing, so the pharmacy runs faster and medication is safer

Solution Overview

China has more than 600,000 retail pharmacies and tens of thousands of hospital pharmacies. Prescriptions leaving the hospital, and internet-plus healthcare policy, are pushing prescription drugs into retail. The pharmacy supplies drugs, dispenses prescriptions, and guides how they are taken. Older pharmacies manage stock coarsely, warn late on expiry, move prescriptions slowly, risk a dispensing error, and do not follow chronic conditions. Built on IoT and the pharmacy information system, this solution manages stock, moves prescriptions electronically, dispenses automatically, and guides the patient.

It is used in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, internet pharmacies, and in-hospital cabinets. Stock covers receiving, expiry warnings, batch traceability, and temperature and humidity, which is what GSP asks for. An electronic prescription is received, checked, and dispensed as one digital path, between a hospital and a pharmacy or an internet hospital and a pharmacy. Automated dispensers and a dispensing system raise speed and cut errors. Guidance covers reminders, contraindications, and chronic care, so patients stay with the regimen. HIS, the electronic record, insurance, and internet hospitals close the loop from prescription to drug.

The rules, and what changes

The Drug Administration Law requires drug traceability. GSP is explicit on temperature, humidity, and expiry. Electronic prescriptions must follow the Detailed Rules on the Supervision of Internet-based Diagnosis and Treatment. Automated dispensing cuts outpatient time from 3–5 minutes a person to under one minute. Expiry warnings cut the write-off rate by more than 50%. Prescription flow lets a patient collect outside the hospital. Chronic-care management lifts repeat purchase and the average ticket. In a Grade III Class A hospital, pharmacists can put more than 30% of their time into guidance and pharmacy services.

Core Capabilities

From what is bought in to what is handed to the patient

Inventory and expiry

Receiving, issuing, and stocktake are digital. Expiry warnings, near-expiry reminders, and batch traceability are included. Store and pharmacy temperature and humidity are watched, and an out-of-range reading alarms. Suppliers and the GSP system can be connected.

Prescription flow and review

An electronic prescription is received, checked by a pharmacist, recorded as it is prepared, and confirmed when it is handed over. Hospital HIS, internet hospitals, and third-party platforms can send prescriptions. The prescription leaves a trail.

Automated dispensing

The machine issues what the prescription names. The dispensing system helps with split packs and unit-dose layout. A check can stop an error. Dispensing is faster, and fewer mistakes are made by hand.

Guidance and chronic care

Reminders, contraindications, and interaction checks. A file for chronic patients, a reminder to return, and a track of whether the medicine is taken. A patient app and a health platform can be linked.

Typical Use Cases

Hospital pharmacy

Outpatient, inpatient, and the IV admixture center

Retail pharmacies

Chains and independent stores

Internet pharmacies

O2O, prescriptions filled off-site, and delivery

Integration Points

Systems: HIS, EMR, insurance, and internet hospitals. Prescription data follows the electronic-prescription rules. The IoT platform manages temperature and humidity and the smart cabinets.

Compliance: GSP, drug traceability, and prescription rules. Narcotic and psychotropic drugs need extra control and a record.
