Filter monitoring, water-quality checks, and remote service that keep household drinking water safe
Built on the Internet of Things and a cloud platform, this solution gives purifier makers filter-life monitoring, TDS checks, water-use totals, replacement reminders, and remote service. Connected machines turn a purifier into a service: better support, lower after-sales cost, and safer drinking water at home.
Home purifiers are widespread, but filters are often left in too long, owners cannot see the water quality, and service is slow to arrive. An overdue filter filters less well and can contaminate the water a second time. A traditional unit cannot be watched from the factory, so the maker cannot act first. The solution covers the filter, the water, the volume used, and service. Life is estimated from volume, hours in use, and the pressure drop across the cartridge, and a reminder goes out when it is due. A TDS sensor watches the outlet and alarms if the reading is off. Daily, monthly, and yearly totals show the household how it uses water. Remote service covers online status, fault alerts, firmware updates, filter orders, and a booked home visit. Connectivity is Wi-Fi, 4G, or NB-IoT, with links to the maker's app, the store, and the service desk. It fits home RO systems, ultrafiltration units, and pipeline dispensers.
China has more than 200 million household purifiers in use, and filter replacement is a repeat purchase. Under the old pattern the replacement rate stays under 30%, and overdue cartridges are common. Reminders, one-tap ordering, and a home visit can lift the replacement rate above 60%, which raises consumable revenue. A connected unit also lets the maker diagnose faults remotely, push updates, and run trade-in offers, and after-sales cost can fall 20%–30%. Commercial and rental fleets depend on the connection even more: billing by volume, a map of the installed base, and scheduled cartridge changes in batches.
Filter life model: Estimate life from the cartridge type, its rated volume, and the water the unit actually sees. For an RO membrane, judge from water produced, the wastewater ratio, and how TDS moves. Keep a manual calibration so the model can be tuned from what owners report.
Which radio to use: At home, Wi-Fi is the usual choice: it costs less and owners already know it. Where there is no Wi-Fi, such as an older block or a rural house, use 4G or NB-IoT. NB-IoT fits a low-power reminder that reports only now and then.
From the sensor through the service call
Life is estimated from volume, hours in use, and the pressure drop, with a reminder when the cartridge is due. Each stage can be watched on its own.
Outlet TDS is watched live, and an off reading raises an alarm, so drinking water stays safe and the filter is still doing its job.
A due cartridge triggers a notice, a one-tap order, and a booked home visit.
Online status, fault alerts, remote updates, and water-use analysis, so after-sales cost comes down.
