France's third-largest operator, part of the Bouygues Group, with mobile and fixed broadband

Overview of Bouygues Telecom

Bouygues Telecom is France's third-largest telecom operator and is part of the large French construction and media group Bouygues. Bouygues Telecom was established in 1994 and is one of the first private operators to enter the French mobile communication market after liberalization. After 30 years of development, Bouygues Telecom has evolved from a pure mobile operator to a full-service operator with integrated fixed and mobile services, covering mobile, fixed broadband, enterprise services, and IoT.

Through Bouygues Telecom Entreprises, the company offers French and multinational businesses M2M connectivity, private APNs, IoT SIM management, and roaming. NB-IoT and LTE-M cover the main parts of France and are used for smart metering, asset tracking, and connected vehicles.

Development History and Milestones

The Bouygues Group, a French construction company, founded Bouygues Telecom in 1994. It launched as Bouygues Télécom and received France's third GSM licence. Commercial GSM service started in 1996, with lower prices aimed at Orange and SFR. It kept extending mobile coverage through the 2000s, launched 3G in 2003 and 4G LTE in 2012, and in 2013 added the lower-priced B&You brand after Free Mobile entered the market.

In terms of fixed and convergent networks: in the 2010s, Bouygues Telecom gradually entered the fixed broadband market through acquisitions and self-built infrastructure; after acquiring part of SFR's assets in 2016 (a transaction between Bouygues and Altice), its fixed network capabilities were strengthened; in 2020, it launched 5G commercial services; in the 2020s, Bouygues Telecom continues to invest in 5G and fiber networks, maintaining a solid third place in the French telecom market.
