KPN Overview
KPN (Koninklijke KPN N.V., Royal KPN Telecom) is the largest integrated telecommunications operator in the Netherlands, headquartered in The Hague. KPN's history dates back to 1852 when the Dutch government established the first telegraph company. After the privatization of Dutch Telecom in 1989, it was renamed KPN. KPN leads the Dutch market in mobile, fixed broadband, and enterprise services, and also has operations in Belgium and Germany.
In the field of the Internet of Things (IoT), KPN is a pioneer in IoT applications in Europe. As an agricultural country and a major port nation in Europe, the Netherlands has allowed KPN to accumulate extensive experience in smart agriculture, smart ports, and smart metering. KPN's LoRa network covers the entire Netherlands and also provides NB-IoT and LTE-M cellular IoT connections, forming a multi-technology complementary IoT network system.

Development History and Milestones
KPN's history can be traced back to 1852 with the Staat der Nederlanden telegraph service established by the Dutch government. In 1989, Dutch Telecom was privatized, forming KPN (Koninklijke PTT Nederland). In the 1990s, KPN actively expanded its international business, acquiring operators in Belgium, Germany, and other places. In 2013, KPN rejected a takeover offer from Mexico's América Móvil. In 2015, it sold Germany's E-Plus to Spain's Telefonica.
In terms of IoT development: KPN is a pioneer in European LoRa network deployment, establishing a nationwide LoRa network in the Netherlands in 2016; KPN collaborates with Dutch agriculture, ports, and municipal departments to deploy numerous IoT projects; the Rotterdam Port smart port project is a benchmark case for KPN IoT; KPN also deploys NB-IoT and LTE-M, forming a multi-technology IoT network.
