Development History and Milestones
Turkcell was established in 1994 as a joint venture between Turkey's Çukurova Holding and Finland's Sonera (now Telia), obtaining Turkey's first GSM license. Turkcell quickly became the largest mobile operator in Turkey. In 2000, Turkcell was listed on the New York and Istanbul Stock Exchanges. In the 2000s, Turkcell expanded into the Middle East, Central Asia, and many Eastern European countries, entering markets such as Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Georgia, and Northern Cyprus. In the 2010s, Turkcell transformed into a digital service provider, launching broadband, television, mobile payment, OTT, and other services. In 2020, Turkcell commercially launched 5G in Turkey.
