Definition
A geomagnetic sensor is a sensor that watches local disturbances in the Earth's magnetic field and uses them to decide whether a vehicle occupies a parking space. A metal vehicle parked in the space disturbs the field, and the sensor detects that change by magnetoresistance or magnetic induction. The devices are used in smart parking, roadside parking, and parking-lot management. Readings go to a cloud platform over NB-IoT, WiFi, or LoRa, and they support space guidance, billing, and analysis. Combined with video intelligent analysis and face recognition, they can support a smart-transport system that fuses several sources.
Core Concepts and Technical Features
These sensors use magnetoresistance (AMR, GMR, or TMR) or magnetic induction. They are buried in the parking surface and watch the X, Y, and Z components of the geomagnetic field. Compared with video or ultrasonic detection, they are simpler to install, cost less, raise fewer privacy issues, and do not depend on light. An empty-space baseline has to be calibrated so a vehicle can be told apart from other disturbances. After a gateway gathers the readings, they go to a cloud platform. With big data and AI, the platform can forecast occupancy and draw a heat map. With an electronic fence, the same idea can watch vehicles entering and leaving an area.
Use Cases
Geomagnetic sensors are used for roadside parking, to detect whether a curb space is taken and to start billing; for parking lots, to guide drivers indoors and outdoors and to count empty spaces; for smart cities, to build parking heat maps and analyze traffic flow; and for parks, to manage parking at enterprises, hospitals, and malls. With video intelligent analysis, the system can read license plates and vehicle attributes. Connected to a cloud platform and an API, it can join navigation, payment, and a city-brain system.
Technical Architecture and Selection Key Points
A geomagnetic parking system includes the geomagnetic sensor, a gateway, a cloud platform, and the guidance and billing applications. Sensors connect over NB-IoT, WiFi, LoRa, or another wireless link. Selection should cover detection accuracy and immunity to interference, battery life for wireless units, integration with the cloud platform and the API, and the cost to install and maintain. SimtoLink can supply the geomagnetic sensors, gateways, cloud platform, and API together for smart parking.
Implementation Guidance
A deployment starts from the layout and the number of spaces, then the sensor and the communications method, a baseline calibration, gateways and a cloud platform, and a connection to billing and guidance. Deployed with video intelligent analysis, the combination can raise accuracy and add functions. Selection should also cover an open API and integration with the city parking platform and navigation apps.
