Product overview and where it fits
The SimtoLink explosion-proof card-reader enclosure kit gives a card reader or keypad in an oil and gas, chemical, or dust hazardous area a flameproof or increased-safety shell, a tempered window, sealed cable glands, and an equipotential earth terminal, so a standard access-control module can be fitted on site and still match the Ex certificate. The kit is built around cable-entry count, isolation between the inner and outer chambers, and an interlock on the maintenance cover. That avoids the temperature rise and spark risk of swapping the shell and leaving the wiring as-is. A barrier interface is reserved for a buzzer and indicator lamps.
Before you order, check the gas group, the temperature class, and the protection type (Ex d, Ex e, Ex ia, and others) against the nameplate of the finished unit. The hardware specification should state the allowed power of the board inside, the impact rating of the glass, and the coating options. A custom flameproof chamber sized to a common reader can be reviewed before production.
The kit itself is the structure, the flameproof chamber, and the wiring. Card reading, communications, and supply depend on the reader and the control board you fit. SimtoLink can check the cutout, the window transmittance, and the clearance at the antenna or the sensing zone, so the metal chamber does less harm to a near-field card read or to coupling with a passive tag.
Reliability on site
For electrical safety and EMC, this kit has cleared the relevant salt-spray and vibration type tests. The ports carry surge and reverse-polarity protection. A reinforced ground and a split layout keep ground loops and common-mode noise down. Outdoor or coastal installs can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.
Maintenance turns on the flameproof joint, the seals, and gland torque. After the cover is opened, recheck earth and the seal to the procedure, and keep a record of each opening for the annual inspection. If the reader or communications module needs parameters or a firmware update, follow that supplier’s explosion-proof limits and the documents shipped with the module. Do not open the cover while the circuit is live.
Key hardware parameters
The ratings below are the typical build of this kit, written so a specifier can cite them in a bid clause. For a wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe variant, ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification and the installation and commissioning guide. Order codes in the same family can differ slightly; the nameplate and the documents in the box govern.
| Parameter | Specification | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Construction | Flameproof / increased safety (typical) | Per the explosion-proof certificate |
| Material | Cast aluminum alloy (typical) | Stainless steel optional |
| Window | Tempered glass | Impact rating is in the specification |
| Cable entry | Sealed gland and blanking plug | Count and thread can be specified |
| Readers | IC / ID / Mifare and others | Cutout and chamber depth follow the reader |
| Signal out | Wiegand / RS485 and others | Follows the module inside |
| Earthing | Equipotential terminal | M6 copper busbar, typical |
| Ex marking | Ex d IIC T6 (example) | The nameplate governs |
| Operating temperature | −20~+55 ℃ (typical) | Matches the temperature class |
| Standard | GB 3836 series | Project acceptance |
Typical applications
Four field patterns for this kit, useful when you are laying out a scheme and checking payback:
Oil and gas stations and pressure-regulating stations
Access at the hazardous-area boundary, with card read and emergency release designed together.
Chemical process areas
Readers at the second door and on patrol routes sit in an explosion-proof shell with a corrosion-resistant coating.
Dusty shops and grain stores
The dust group is matched, and the cover-opening procedure is on a set interval.
Ships and offshore platforms
Seals and equipotential bonding hold up in salt spray, and the build can meet extra classification-society clauses.
Installation, grounding, and maintenance
- Confirm the supply range and polarity before power-up. If needed, check bus voltage and breaker rating with a multimeter.
- Use shielded twisted pair for communications, grounded at one end, and do not run it in a long bundle with high-power cables.
- On first connection, prove bidirectional read and write and threshold triggers with the platform in the lab, then move the kit to site.
- Outdoors, keep drainage and ventilation clear, inspect the sealing faces on a schedule, and keep lightning-protection earth resistance inside local limits.
- In long-term service, spot-check samples and archive logs every 6 months.
Ordering, documents, and support
SimtoLink supplies the hardware specification, dimension drawings, a wiring table, and sample projects for this kit. Volume orders can include a sample review and in-plant inspection. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the documents shipped with the unit.
