Product Overview and Engineering Role

The SimtoLink indoor formaldehyde electrochemical module is an environmental sensor for IoT. A low-power MCU and a low-noise front end keep the reading predictable across wide temperature, wide supply voltage, and EMI. The electrochemical cell is cross-sensitive to alcohols and some VOCs. In a closed room, read the value against the ventilation state and the off-gassing curve of the materials that hold formaldehyde, and calibrate on a schedule. The hardware is built to be serviced on site: pluggable terminals, a watchdog and a redundancy check on the critical chips, and signed firmware that can roll back, which suits volume delivery and remote maintenance.

A typical order provides isolated RS485, PoE, or a LoRa return, so the module can join an existing SCADA, energy-management, or IoT platform. SimtoLink supplies a southbound point-list template and northbound MQTT/HTTP push examples, which shortens joint commissioning. Volume projects can add an enclosure legend, harness length, protocol mapping, and a calibration certificate.

Reliability and Site Conditions

On electrical safety and EMC, this module has cleared the relevant CE and FCC items. Ports include surge and reverse-polarity protection. Reinforced grounding and a partitioned layout hold down ground loops and common-mode interference. Outdoor or coastal sites can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.

Parameters load in bulk, threshold policies can be set, and event video or waveforms can be kept, depending on the model. Configuration and firmware go out by OTA. Before sign-off, run a power-on self-test, sync time on the link, and spot-check a sample. For metering or safety use, SimtoLink helps submit the unit to a third-party metrology institute and provides the type-test documents.

Key Hardware Parameters

These figures are the typical build of this module, for selection and for a technical clause in a tender. For a wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe explosion-proof variant, ask SimtoLink for the Hardware Specification and the Installation and Commissioning Guide. Order codes in the same family can differ slightly; the nameplate and the papers shipped with the module govern.

Parameter Specification Remarks
Sensing principle Electrochemical (HCHO) Temperature and humidity compensation
Range 0~1000 μg/m³ (typical) Can be calibrated
Resolution 1 μg/m³ (typical) Digital output
Repeatability ±5% of reading (typical) At constant temperature and humidity
Zero drift <±10 μg/m³/month (typical) Clean air; depends on cross-sensitivity
Power supply PoE / DC 12~24 V By order code
Communication RS485 / Modbus RTU / LoRa 3 kV isolation on the RS485 side
Warm-up <180 s (typical) Cold start
Operating temperature 0~50 ℃ (typical indoors) A wide-temperature build can be ordered
Explosion protection Not explosion-proof (typical) Intrinsically safe builds are by project

Typical Deployments

Three ways this module shows up in an IoT project, for scheme design and for judging payback:

Municipal utilities

Scattered points and outdoor cabinets. The hardware takes wide temperature and surge protection, for long runs and low-latency watching of water, gas, and street lighting.

Campuses and buildings

The module joins the campus energy system or the building controls for sub-metering, alarms, and linked actions, which cuts manual meter reads and inspection rounds.

Plants and energy sites

On a line or in a power room, the module talks to MES or EMS and uploads process values or energy use from the edge.

Installation, Grounding, and Maintenance

  • Check the supply range and polarity before you apply power. Where the bus is shared, confirm voltage and breaker rating with a multimeter.
  • Use shielded twisted pair, ground the shield at one end, and do not lay it for a long distance in the same bundle as high-power cables.
  • Before the first site cutover, prove bidirectional read and write and a threshold trip against the platform in the lab.
  • Outdoors, leave a path for drainage and for air, inspect the gasket faces on a round, and keep the lightning earth resistance inside the local limit.
  • While the module stays in service, spot-check a sample and archive the logs every 12 months.

Ordering, Documentation, and Support

SimtoLink ships a hardware specification, an outline drawing, a wiring table, and a sample project with the module. Volume orders can include a sample review and an inspection at the factory. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the papers that travel with the unit.

Where it is used

Indoor formaldehyde checks support fit-out acceptance, long-stay apartment operations, and rooms used by people who are more sensitive. A short peak is not the same as long exposure. The cases below turn on where the sample is taken, how long the room stays closed, and how the platform alarms.

Fitted-out homes at handover

Points sit in the living room, bedrooms, and kitchen. A 72-hour closed-room test produces a timestamped electronic report. Linked to the fresh-air system, the pre-ventilation rule goes into the handover standard and the property maintenance manual.

Maternity, infant, and care rooms

Wards, postpartum rooms, and neonatal areas are watched continuously. Graded thresholds go to the nursing station and the infection-control office. Quiet sampling and a low-blue local display leave rest and the day-night cycle alone.

Furniture stores and custom showrooms

After a batch of display materials is swapped, a quick screen goes on the public board, which helps buyers trust the environmental grade and the formaldehyde-removal process. Temperature and humidity explain seasonal release and what the air-conditioning is doing.

Long-stay apartments and coworking

A baseline before move-in and a record at move-out can be traced back to the original one-second data if there is a dispute. Tenants are separated logically, and the display is de-identified, which fits personal-information rules.
