Product overview and engineering role
The SimtoLink serial multi-master protocol converter stops clashes when several masters on one RS485 bus poll the same slave at once. Time-slice arbitration, a priority queue, or a transparent buffer lets SCADA, a PLC, and a portable commissioning tool share the bus.
SimtoLink supplies a baud-rate and parity checklist and typical topology drawings. Common frames such as Modbus can be recognized, subject to the firmware. Volume builds can set the channel count and the isolation withstand voltage.
Reliability and field fit
Electrical safety and EMC coverage includes the CCC items that apply. Ports are protected against surge and reversed polarity. Reinforced grounding and a partitioned layout cut ground-loop and common-mode risk. Outdoor or coastal sites can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.
Software can import parameters in bulk, apply threshold policies, and keep event video or waveform records where the ordered model supports them. Configuration and firmware update over the air. On site, finish a power-on self-test, sync time on the link, and spot-check a sample. For metering or safety use, SimtoLink helps with a third-party metrology submission and supplies type-test documents.
Key hardware parameters
Figures below are a typical multi-master converter build, for engineering selection and for a tender clause. For a wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe version, ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification and the installation and commissioning guide. Order codes in the family can differ slightly; the nameplate and the papers shipped with the unit govern.

Typical applications
How this converter is usually installed, for selection and for a joint check:
Commissioning without a shutdown
A maintenance laptop uses the dedicated master port and shares the same electricity meter with live SCADA. No cable has to be pulled to switch masters.
Dual-master redundant polling
Primary and standby SCADA merge their requests in the converter, so a bus collision does not drop the link.
Water-plant and pump-station retrofit
A new host shares the VFD and instrument serial ports with a legacy RTU, so the cutover window stays short.
Installation, grounding, and maintenance
- Confirm supply range and polarity before power-up. Measure bus voltage and breaker rating when the drawing is unclear.
- Communications cable should be shielded twisted pair, grounded at one end, and kept off long shared routes with high-power cables.
- In the lab, finish a two-way read and write and a threshold trip against the platform before the converter goes to site.
- Outdoor mounts need a drain path and airflow. Recheck the sealing face. Lightning-earth resistance must meet the local code.
- In long service, spot-check a sample and archive logs every 24 months.
Ordering, documentation, and support
Ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification, outline drawings, a wiring table, and example projects. A volume order can include a sample review and an inspector at the plant. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the documents packed with the unit.
