Where This Gateway Sits
One SimtoLink ARM multi-protocol industrial gateway gathers several isolated serial ports, Ethernet, and wireless (LoRa or 4G, by order code) and runs an expandable industrial stack, including BACnet/IP. It is the single northbound and southbound access point for a workshop, a power-distribution room, or an outdoor cabinet.
SimtoLink includes a southbound point-list template, MQTT and HTTP examples going north, and an OTA update plan. TLS, an allow-list, and log audit are available, depending on the firmware build. A volume project can change the DIN-rail or wall-mount enclosure, the antenna exit, and the protocol-mapping package.
How It Holds Up on Site
CE and FCC items are covered for electrical safety and EMC. Ports are protected against surge and a reversed supply. Ground is reinforced and the layout is zoned, which keeps ground loops and common-mode interference smaller. Outdoor and coastal orders can take a higher ingress rating and a coating that resists corrosion.
Parameters can be imported in bulk. Threshold rules, event video, and waveform capture are available depending on the model. Configuration and firmware both move by OTA. Acceptance on site is a power-on self-test, time sync on the link, and a spot check of sampled readings. If the gateway is used for metering or for a safety function, SimtoLink helps arrange a third-party metrology submission and supplies the type-test file.
Key Hardware Parameters
The rows below are the usual build, for sizing and for the technical schedule in a tender. A wider range, a redundant supply, or an intrinsically safe version is quoted separately; ask SimtoLink for the Hardware Specification and the Installation and Commissioning Guide. Order codes in the family can differ a little. Use the nameplate and the papers in the box.
| Parameter | Specification | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | ARM Cortex-A55 quad-core | Fanless |
| Memory / storage | 4G/32G eMMC | Industrial grade |
| Ethernet | Single GbE | RSTP redundancy |
| Serial | 8×RS485 | Isolation 2.5kV |
| Wireless | LoRa+4G | External antenna |
| Protocol stack | BACnet/IP | Expandable |
| Operating temperature | -30~68 ℃ | Wide temperature |
| Power supply | PoE+ | Redundant terminals |
| Installation | DIN rail | Grounding required |
| Security | TLS1.2 | Firmware signature check |
Typical Use Cases
Three placements that come up when you are matching this gateway to a site and proving the link:
Discrete Manufacturing Lines
PLCs, instruments, and RFID controllers share one stack on the way up to MES, so the line does not end up with a mix of branded collector boxes.
Distribution Rooms and Energy Management
In a substation or a campus distribution room it gathers serial and wireless devices and hands them to the energy-management and alarm platforms. Thresholds can be tied to waveform capture, depending on the model.
Outdoor Points on a Campus
Scattered sensors come back over LoRa or 4G, and the Ethernet side lands in the equipment room. One gateway can cover street lights, the pipe network, and the room’s power-and-environment monitoring.
Install, Ground, and Look After It
- Measure the supply and confirm polarity before the breaker is closed. If the rail voltage or the breaker size is in doubt, check both with a meter.
- Use shielded twisted pair for the serial runs, ground the shield at one end only, and do not lay it alongside power cables for a long distance.
- Before the gateway leaves the bench, read and write both ways with the platform and trip a threshold, then install it.
- Outside, keep the drain path and the vents clear, look at the gasket on a schedule, and hold lightning-protection earth resistance to the local code.
- Once it is in service, pull a sample of readings and archive the logs every 6 months.
Ordering, Documentation, and Support
The pack from SimtoLink includes the hardware specification, a dimension drawing, a wiring schedule, and a sample project. Volume buyers can review a sample and inspect at the factory. Warranty and calibration are set by the contract and the documents that ship with the gateway.
