Product Overview and Engineering Role
The SimtoLink dual-Ethernet redundant edge gateway is built around two Gigabit Ethernet ports and an RSTP ring or redundant uplink. It is for SCADA, video backhaul, and IoT aggregation where a single link must not be allowed to fail. The x86 quad-core can run several protocol stacks and edge containers side by side, depending on the software version.
SimtoLink supplies ring-topology guidance, an ACL and certificate guide, and one integrated Modbus/OPC UA/MQTT sample project. Volume builds can add cabinet mounts, redundant power, and a chosen serial-port count.
Reliability and Site Conditions
On electrical safety and EMC, the gateway has passed the relevant CCC test items. Each port has surge and reverse-polarity protection. A reinforced ground and a partitioned layout cut the chance of ground loops and common-mode noise. Outdoor or coastal sites can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.
Software can import parameters in batches, apply threshold rules, and store event video or waveforms, depending on the model. Configuration and firmware go out over OTA. On site, SimtoLink asks for three checks: a power-on self-test, time sync on the communications link, and a spot check of sampled readings. Where the use is metering or safety, we help send the unit to a third-party metrology institute and we provide the type-test file.
Key Hardware Parameters
The table is this gateway in a typical build, for selection and for the technical clauses of a bid. A wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe explosion-proof variant is available from SimtoLink with the Hardware Specification and the Installation and Commissioning Guide. Order codes in the same family can differ slightly; the nameplate and the papers shipped with the unit govern.

Typical Deployments
These are the ways this model is usually installed, for choosing a design and for checking the integration.
Ring SCADA Access
Placed on the Ethernet ring in a substation, a water plant, or a utility tunnel. If a link fails, traffic reroutes so remote control and telemetry stay up.
Security and Industrial Video Aggregation
The two uplinks keep the office network and the production network apart. Protocol conversion and buffering happen at the edge, which lowers the chance of congestion on the backbone.
Equipment Rooms and Edge IDCs
Used as the aggregation node in a row-end cabinet or a micro-module. Serial services, SNMP, and MQTT leave through one northbound exit.
Installation, Grounding, and Maintenance
- Before power-up, confirm the supply range and polarity. Where needed, check bus voltage and breaker rating with a multimeter.
- Run communications on shielded twisted pair, grounded at one end only, and do not lay it in a long bundle with high-power cables.
- For the first go-live, prove bidirectional read and write and threshold triggers against the platform in the lab, then move the gateway to site.
- Outdoors, keep water draining and air moving, inspect the sealing faces on a schedule, and keep the lightning-protection earth resistance inside local rules.
- In continuous service, spot-check samples and archive logs every 12 months.
Ordering, Documentation, and Support
SimtoLink provides the hardware specification, an outline drawing, a wiring table, and a sample project. Volume orders can include a sample review and inspection at the factory. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the documents shipped with the gateway.
