The SimtoLink 5G and wired dual-link industrial gateway keeps a fiber or copper path and a cellular path up together. IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, and VPN/IPSec ship on the unit. It is aimed at telecontrol into a dispatch master station, centralized control of distributed renewables, and mobile emergency command.
SimtoLink includes a primary and backup switchover template, notes on certificate and key custody, and a 19-inch rack wiring sketch. Volume orders can take a custom interface board and a redundant power arrangement.
Reliability and Site Conditions
CCC test items that apply to this gateway are already passed. Surge and reverse-polarity protection sit on the ports, and the chassis uses a reinforced ground with a partitioned layout so ground loops and common-mode noise stay down. If the site is outdoors or on the coast, a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating can be ordered.
Parameters can be loaded in bulk, thresholds can be set, and event video or waveforms can be kept when the model allows it. OTA carries both configuration and firmware. Site acceptance is three checks: self-test at power-up, time alignment over the communications link, and a spot check of samples. For metering or safety duty, SimtoLink helps with submission to a third-party metrology institute and with the type-test file.

Distributed PV and Storage Control
On the plant side the wired ports pick up inverters and meters. The cellular link is the public-network backup into the regional control center, so a leased-line outage costs less.
Grid Dispatch and Telecontrol
IEC104/DNP3 runs as a dual-channel primary and standby pair, which is what a dispatch master station expects for path reliability and hardening.
Emergency and Mobile Command
A vehicle or a shelter can bring 5G up quickly. When the path falls back to wired, the gateway switches over and keeps site video and process data coming back.
Installation, Grounding, and Maintenance
- Confirm the supply range and polarity before power is applied. If the feed is uncertain, measure bus voltage and check the breaker rating with a multimeter.
- Use shielded twisted pair for the communications run, bond the shield at one end, and keep it out of long bundles with high-power cable.
- In the lab, finish two-way read and write plus threshold triggers against the platform before the gateway is moved on site.
- Outdoor installs need drainage and airflow first. Inspect the sealing faces, and hold lightning-protection earth resistance to the local code.
- Once the unit is in long service, spot-check samples and archive logs every 24 months.
Ordering, Documentation, and Support
What ships from SimtoLink is the hardware specification, an outline drawing, a wiring table, and a sample project. Volume buyers can book a sample review and an inspection on the factory floor. Warranty and calibration are set by the contract and by the papers that travel with the unit.
