Product overview and engineering role
Built for North America and for power SCADA that follows the international DNP3 specification. It carries layered data, events, and files between the outstation and the master, on serial and Ethernet at the same time. It fits substations, distribution automation, and renewable control rooms.
SimtoLink supplies a point-list and variation template, notes on secure-authentication objects, and an integration guide for redundant links and time sync (IRIG-B or SNTP, by order code). Volume jobs can add a wide-temperature build, lightning protection, and a rack chassis.
Reliability and site fit
The gateway has passed the relevant IEC 61000-4 Level 4 tests. Ports include surge and reverse-polarity protection. Reinforced grounding and a zoned layout cut ground-loop and common-mode noise. Outdoor and coastal sites can specify a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.
Software takes a batch parameter import, threshold rules, and event video or waveform capture when the model includes them. Configuration and firmware update over the air. On site, close acceptance in three steps: power-on self-test, time sync, and a sample check. Metering and safety jobs can include help submitting to a third-party metrology institute, plus type-test documents.
Key hardware parameters
The table is the typical build, for a selection note or a bid clause. For a wider span, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe variant, ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification and the installation guide. Order codes in the family can differ slightly; the nameplate and the documents in the carton govern.

Typical applications
Three ways this gateway is usually installed, useful when you are still selecting and when you prove the link to the master:
Transmission and distribution SCADA
RTUs and IEDs report to the regional master over DNP3, with dual masters and priority routing.
Renewable grid connection
Inverter and pad-mount data are gathered so dispatch gets the SOE and the security-audit fields it asks for.
Oil and gas fields and pipeline valve stations
Event reports and periodic freezes on a thin link, for satellite or cellular backhaul.
Installation, grounding, and maintenance
- Before you apply power, confirm the supply range and polarity. Meter the bus if the drawing is unclear.
- Run the signal on shielded twisted pair, bond the shield at one end, and keep it off long parallel runs with power cable.
- Prove two-way access and a threshold trigger in the lab before the gateway leaves for site.
- Outdoors, sort drainage and airflow first. Inspect the seals on a schedule, and keep lightning-earth resistance inside the local rule.
- In long service, sample-check the gateway and file the logs every 12 months.
Ordering, documentation, and support
SimtoLink includes the hardware specification, outline drawings, a wiring table, and a sample project. A volume order can add a sample review and an in-plant inspection. Warranty and calibration stay with the contract and the papers that ship with the gateway.
