Product overview and engineering role
The SimtoLink TSN time-sensitive networking gateway brings IEEE 802.1AS time sync, traffic shaping, and preemption to the boundary between the control network and the IT network. Motion control, machine vision, and PLC cycle data then cross Ethernet with a known delay and low jitter.
SimtoLink supplies a gPTP domain plan, a queue and VLAN design note, and a joint-debug example for the Modbus/OPC UA/MQTT northbound stack. ACL and firmware signature check are included. Volume jobs can add redundant ports and a fiber uplink.
Reliability and field fit
Electrical safety and EMC follow the related IEC 61000-4 level-4 test items. Ports carry surge and reverse-polarity protection. Reinforced grounding and a partitioned layout hold down ground-loop and common-mode risk. Outdoor or coastal sites can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.
A batch of parameters can be loaded, thresholds can be set, and models that include it can store event video or a waveform. Configuration and firmware update over the air. On site, finish acceptance as a power-on self-test, communications time sync, and a sample check. For metering or safety use, SimtoLink helps submit the gateway to a third-party metrology institute and supplies the type-test file.
Key hardware parameters
The table is a typical build of this TSN gateway, for selection and for a technical clause in a tender. A wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe version is quoted separately; ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification and the installation and commissioning guide. Order codes in the family can differ slightly. The nameplate and the papers shipped with the gateway govern.

Typical applications
These are the ways this gateway is usually installed, so a buyer can select it and check the interface:
Motion-control lines
Servo buses and vision cameras share one industrial Ethernet plane. TSN shaping cuts cycle jitter and dropped frames.
An OT/IT backbone
At the Layer 3 boundary, real-time flows are split from bulk data. Northbound MQTT/OPC UA can still publish the aggregated topics.
Vehicle and special-equipment trials
Bench and road tests share one time base, so multi-source sensor data lands in the store with aligned timestamps.
Installation, grounding, and maintenance
- Confirm the supply range and polarity before the gateway is powered. When needed, measure bus voltage and breaker rating with a multimeter.
- Use shielded twisted pair, ground the shield at one end, and do not run it for a long distance bundled with high-power cable.
- On the first connection, prove bidirectional read and write and a threshold trip against the platform in the lab, then move the gateway to site.
- Outdoors, give the enclosure a drain path and a way to breathe. Inspect the seal face on rounds. Lightning-protection earth resistance has to meet the local code.
- On a gateway that stays in service, take a sample check and archive the logs every 12 months.
Ordering, documentation, and support
SimtoLink can supply the hardware specification, outline drawings, a wiring table, and an example project for this gateway. Volume orders can include a sample review and inspection at the factory. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the papers shipped with the gateway.
