Product overview
The video decode edge acceleration box is for multi-channel H.264/H.265 hardware decode, low-latency preview, and transcode offload. The figures on this page are what a buyer, a tender clause, and a later spot check all use. At the edge it takes decode load off the CPU and GPU, and it mixes GB28181, ONVIF, and RTSP for a video wall and an analysis line. Cooling and PCIe and network bandwidth are sized for continuous decode. Signed firmware and channel templates keep a batch shipment and remote service practical.
Several Gigabit and 10-Gigabit ports, with SFP optional, plus a local debug port, are fitted as standard, for an NVR, an algorithm box, and a display wall. SimtoLink supplies channel templates, suggested bitrate and GOP values, and an ONVIF/RTSP join list. Volume orders can include a note on the cooling path and how often to service the intake filter.
Reliability in the rack
The CE/FCC items that apply have been passed. Ports are protected against surge and reversed polarity. Reinforced grounding and a partitioned layout cut ground-loop and common-mode risk. Outdoor or coastal orders can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.
Channel templates, bitrate and GOP, and transcode settings can be pushed in a batch, depending on the model. Firmware and the codec stack update over the air. Close acceptance with a power-on self-test, a sampled stream check, and an end-to-end preview delay check. For metering or safety use, SimtoLink helps with a third-party metrology submission and the type-test file.
Key specifications
The table is a typical build, for selection and for a tender clause. A wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe version is in the hardware specification and the installation and commissioning guide. Order codes in the family can differ slightly. The nameplate and the papers shipped with the box govern.
| Parameter | Specification | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Decode | Multi-channel H.264/H.265 hardware decode (1080p/4K, channel count follows the chip and the bitrate) | The factory performance report governs |
| SoC / acceleration | Embedded SoC + dedicated VDEC / optional NPU | Continuous-decode cooling tracks TDP closely |
| Memory | 8~32 GB (by model) | Frame buffer and the transcode pipeline |
| Storage | NVMe / SSD cache | Ring buffer and keyframe index |
| Video I/O | RTSP/ONVIF/GB28181 and similar ingest; HDMI/DP out (by model) | Low-latency preview and a video wall |
| Container (optional) | Docker for transcode and analysis services | Tied to the host codec-stack version |
| Network | Multi GbE; SFP+ optional | Multicast and QoS follow the switch |
| Operating temperature | -20~55 ℃ (typical) | Inlet temperature and fan-speed policy |
| Supply | DC 12~48 V / AC 220 V (by model) | Surge and earth follow the site rule |
| Mechanical | 19-inch / wall mount / desktop | Air path and dust-filter service |
Typical applications
Four layouts that come up often, for the design and for a payback check:
Security video wall
On the order of a hundred channels onto the wall and on tour, with less spent on a central server and decode cards.
Analysis pipeline in front
One YUV/RGB frame feed for the algorithm boxes, so the same stream is not decoded twice and the bus is less contested.
Emergency command
Cameras from several brands share the box, with a low-latency throw to the screen and recording at the same time.
New media and venue broadcast
Edge transcode and multi-bitrate delivery, for a CDN and for multicast on the private network.
Installation, grounding, and maintenance
- Confirm supply range and polarity before the box is powered. If the drawing is thin, measure bus voltage and breaker rating with a multimeter.
- Use shielded twisted pair, ground it at one end, and do not run it for a long distance with high-power cable.
- On the bench, finish a two-way read and write and a threshold trip against the platform before the box goes on site.
- An outdoor mount needs drainage and a path for air. Recheck the seal face. Lightning-earth resistance has to meet the local rule.
- Every 6 months, check temperature, fan speed, and decode load, and archive the logs.
Ordering, documentation, and support
Ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification, an outline drawing, the wiring table, and a sample project. A volume order can include a sample review and an inspector at the plant. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the papers packed with the box.
