Online multi-parameter water quality

SimtoLink water quality sensors read pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), turbidity (NTU), conductivity, residual chlorine, and ammonia nitrogen online. The sensing element is an industrial electrochemical electrode or a luminescent/optical probe, for wastewater treatment, rivers and lakes, and aquaculture. Output is RS485/Modbus, with self-cleaning.

An anti-fouling design limits biofilm growth and stretches the service interval. SimtoLink water-quality schemes are already in use at more than a hundred wastewater plants, aquaculture sites, and environmental stations, so operators can collect readings in real time and tune the process.

Parameters and specifications

SimtoLink water quality sensors are offered by parameter and by sensing method, so the set can match the site. The table is a typical reference:

Parameter Range Typical accuracy Typical use
pH 0~14 ±0.1 Wastewater treatment, aquaculture
Dissolved oxygen, DO 0~20 mg/L ±0.3 mg/L Aerobic tanks, pond aeration
Turbidity 0~4000 NTU ±5% FS Effluent, river sections
Conductivity / ammonia nitrogen / residual chlorine By model By model Process control, disinfection monitoring

Optical dissolved oxygen needs no membrane change and lasts more than 5 years. The electrochemical method needs a membrane change about every 6~12 months. The probe can use an automatic brush or an air blast, and the cleaning interval is configurable. A multi-parameter probe can combine 3~6 parameters, so fewer mounting points are needed. Supply is DC 12~24V. Figures above are typical of the standard models. The product specification governs.

Where it is used, and what changed

The same probe family covers process tuning at a wastewater plant, aeration control on a fish farm, and section monitoring on a river. Four deployments, and what they changed on site:

Inlet and outlet at a wastewater plant

One plant put multi-parameter sensors on the inlet and the outlet and watched COD and ammonia nitrogen live. With a SimtoLink edge gateway in the process loop, effluent compliance rose to 99.5%.

Dissolved-oxygen control on a fish farm

A farm fitted dissolved-oxygen sensors on 20 ponds and let the aerators start and stop on the reading. Energy use fell 25%, and dissolved oxygen in the ponds stayed steady.

River-section water quality

A river-section project installed 30 stations for pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and ammonia nitrogen. Readings go to the environmental platform as they are taken, which is the data the river-chief system uses.

Industrial circulating and cooling water

pH, conductivity, and residual chlorine on the circulating cooling loop, so dosing follows the water and the plant stays within a safe operating band.

Selection and care

  • Mounting: For continuous submersion, use an IP68 probe. Where scale builds up, add self-cleaning or a scheduled manual clean.
  • Parameter count: Combining parameters can lower cost, but one failed channel can take the whole probe offline. Weigh that against how easy the site is to service.
  • Medium: High salt or a strongly corrosive medium needs a special electrode. State the medium, the range, and the mounting when you order.
  • Calibration: Calibrate a pH electrode about once a month with standard buffer. Replace an electrochemical dissolved-oxygen membrane about every 6~12 months. An optical sensor lasts longer.
  • Storage: If an electrode will sit unused, keep it in the protective solution as specified. Keep a calibration record so the history can be audited.

How a project usually runs

A practical sequence for a water-quality job:

Requirements→ Parameter selection→ Site installation→ Calibration→ Scheduled maintenance

Probes still need a clean. Self-cleaning lengthens the gap between visits, and a site that scales up needs them more often. SimtoLink replaces probes, calibrates them, and can cover annual maintenance plus installation guidance on site.

Service and support

SimtoLink helps select the sensor, replace probes, and calibrate them, and can integrate several parameters and connect the environmental platform. On-site installation guidance and maintenance training are available, along with the product manual and a scheme quote.
