Roaming Switch

PLMN selection · Preferred networks · Multi-IMSI switching · Coverage in 200+ countries and regions

Overview

A roaming switch is how a cross-border IoT device chooses which network to use. It covers PLMN selection, a preferred-network list, Multi-IMSI or profile switching, and remote policy over the air. SimtoLink's International IoT Cloud Platform (ICMP) supports automatic selection, a manual switch, and a preferred network by region, cost, or coverage. It covers 200+ countries and regions, supports 500+ enterprise customers, and connects more than 10 million devices.

Automatic or manual PLMN choice

Automatic or manual PLMN selection, with a preferred-network list and HPLMN and VPLMN priority by region, so a device roaming across a border picks a sensible network.

Multi-IMSI and an eSIM profile change

Multi-IMSI cards and eSIM profile switching, changing operator by region, cost, or coverage, which lowers the roaming rate and keeps the device reachable.

Policy pushed over the air

OTA (over-the-air) policy, batch network-selection settings, and a live switch command, so the selection policy can change without anyone touching the device.

What roaming selection has to get right

Selection has to happen automatically when a device crosses a border, balance cost and coverage, be changeable from a distance, and move freely among operators. ICMP sets the preferred network, the Multi-IMSI policy, and OTA delivery, offers a REST API, and shows device status as it happens. The same policy scales with the fleet.

How a selection policy is applied

Network selection runs on a microservices architecture, with a 99.9% SLA and technical support around the clock. TLS protects the OTA payload, IAM and RBAC decide who can change a preferred network, and the audit trail records the policy that was pushed.

  • PLMN selection with a preferred network by region, cost, or coverage
  • Multi-IMSI and eSIM profile switching among operators, which brings the roaming rate down
  • OTA delivery that updates selection settings in a batch, with no site visit
  • A named customer-success manager for the roaming policy and the network list

Devices that should not stay on an expensive network

Cross-border devices / mobile assets When a vehicle, container, or logistics device crosses a border, PLMN selection prefers a local network, and Multi-IMSI switches by region so the roaming rate stays lower.
Cost control / the roaming rate A preferred network points at a lower-cost operator by region, and a Multi-IMSI switch avoids the expensive roaming rate, so cross-border connectivity stays inside the budget.
A policy update from a distance OTA pushes a new selection policy. A batch of devices can take a new preferred network without a site visit, which makes a new region faster to open.

From a preferred-network list to devices in the field

The path is a requirements review, selection-strategy design, preferred-network setup, a proof of concept, and then scaled deployment. SimtoLink analyzes selection by region, configures the preferred network, supports OTA delivery, designs the Multi-IMSI policy, and trains the team.
