Site deployment, pickup payments, compartment control, and courier-system integration for last-mile delivery
The smart parcel locker solution is for courier companies, pickup-station operators, property managers, and e-commerce platforms. IoT puts each cabinet on a network and takes pressure off the last mile. Lockers sit in residential communities, office buildings, universities, and business parks. They close the gap when the courier and the recipient are not there at the same time, they cost less than a doorstep attempt, and they keep the parcel more secure.
4G carries four jobs. Site deployment covers community and office locations, the property agreement, and the operator's revenue share. Pickup payments cover overtime storage fees, add-on services, and monthly memberships. Compartment control covers drop-off, pickup, status, and the pickup code. Courier and marketplace integration covers waybill sync, delivery records, and pickup notices. A cabinet uses 50–200 MB a month and can call Cainiao, Fengchao, and Kuaidi100 APIs so the job closes from drop-off to collection.
The State Post Bureau reports that China handled more than 130 billion express parcels in 2024, and the last mile is still under strain. The Interim Regulations on Express Delivery and the Measures for the Administration of Smart Parcel Locker Services encourage locker networks, and they require a traceable drop-off record and a compliant pickup. The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development treats lockers as community infrastructure, so new residential buildings have to leave space for them.
Cainiao, Fengchao, and China Post Sudiyi hold most of the market. Regional operators, property-built cabinets, and station-plus-locker hybrids sit alongside them. A cabinet may have a few dozen compartments or several hundred, and it handles 20–100 parcels a day. Three constraints keep coming up. Basements and corridors are poor radio environments, so Wi-Fi is weak or missing and a wired install is hard. The courier system expects live status, with drop-off and pickup synced within seconds. Overtime storage fees and add-on services need a payment channel that does not drop. 4G is the link most operators now use.
New cabinets can leave the factory with an IoT SIM. Cabinets already in the field can take a 4G module. Before you connect a courier, confirm the API—Cainiao's IoT open platform or the Fengchao developer platform—and keep compartment status, pickup codes, and overtime-fee rules aligned with that system.
Sites, payments, compartments, and courier systems for smart parcel lockers
Place cabinets in residential communities and office buildings, agree terms with the property, and settle the operator's share. Sites can be managed by region and by brand, so the next placement is based on the numbers.
Charge overtime storage, add-on services such as a large compartment, and monthly memberships. WeChat and Alipay are aggregated, each transaction uploads immediately, and revenue share settles from the same record.
Drop-off, pickup, status, and the pickup code. Occupancy and overtime parcels are counted, and a compartment can be opened remotely when something goes wrong.
Fault alerts, OTA updates, and remote open. Courier systems and marketplace APIs receive the waybill, the delivery record, and the pickup notice.
At the gate or under a residential block, so people who work office hours can collect when they get home.
Lobbies and park entrances where employees collect in one place.
Dorm areas and teaching buildings, where student parcels arrive in a rush.
Cainiao stations and convenience-store counters that mix lockers with a person on site.
Each cabinet uses 50–200 MB a month, mostly for compartment status, drop-off and pickup records, pickup codes, and the courier-platform link. SimtoLink supplies 4G IoT SIMs, a data pool, and an API into the courier system. Cabinets often sit in basements and corridors, so switching across operators is what keeps the link up. Cainiao, Fengchao, and Kuaidi100 can all receive the waybill, the delivery record, and the pickup notice.
