Robot Vacuum Solution

Channel distribution, subscription payments, maps and OTA, and commercial cleaning for connected cleaning equipment

Solution Overview

The robot vacuum solution is built for equipment makers, channel partners, and commercial cleaning operators. Over IoT, it connects home robot vacuums and commercial cleaning robots and opens a path to paid add-on services. The category is growing quickly. Homes mostly use Wi-Fi, but malls, hotels, office towers, and hospitals often have no stable Wi-Fi, or the robot has to move between zones, so cellular becomes the practical link.

A 4G cellular connection covers channel distribution (online and offline, export, agents, and e-commerce platforms), consumer subscriptions (map services, remote control, consumable orders, and monthly memberships), map upload and OTA (mapping data, firmware updates, and status reports), and commercial cleaning (mall and hotel robots on 4G where there is no Wi-Fi, plus task dispatch). Each unit uses 50–200 MB a month. Commercial robots use more, because they travel farther and send more task data.

How Home and Commercial Links Differ

A home robot vacuum usually joins the household Wi-Fi, but the owner cannot start it from outside, and some floor plans leave rooms with a weak signal. This solution supports Wi-Fi plus 4G: Wi-Fi at home keeps cellular data down, and 4G takes over when the owner is out, for a remote start, a status check, or a consumable reminder. Cellular use at home is about 20–50 MB a month, mostly remote control, status reports, and OTA updates.

Commercial cleaning robots in malls, hotels, office towers, and hospitals work under different constraints. No stable Wi-Fi: covering a large floor with Wi-Fi is expensive, and the signal is often weak. Movement across zones: the robot works on different floors and in different areas, and a Wi-Fi handoff drops the session. Task dispatch: the cloud has to send jobs as they are assigned, receive path data, and watch the run. 4G is the practical choice on these sites. Each robot uses 100–200 MB a month, and the link can tie into a cleaning dispatch platform and a building management system.

Implementation Notes

At home, a 4G module can be optional: a backup when Wi-Fi fails, or the path for remote control while the owner is out. On commercial sites, fit the 4G module before the robot leaves the factory and connect it to the cleaning dispatch platform, so tasks can be sent, paths uploaded, and faults raised. Map files and OTA packages are large. Resume interrupted transfers, and send them at night when the network is quieter, so they finish. SimtoLink supplies a data pool and APIs into smart-home and robot cloud platforms, with multi-operator coverage and transfer settings suited to large files.

Core Functional Modules

Connectivity for robot vacuums, from the home to a commercial floor

Channel distribution

Online and offline, export, agents, and e-commerce platforms. Devices can be activated, assigned to a channel, and counted in sales reports, so the channel itself is managed in software.

Subscriptions and add-on services

Map services, remote control, consumable orders, and monthly memberships. Customers can subscribe by feature or by term, which opens after-sales revenue on the device itself.

Maps and OTA

Map uploads, firmware OTA, and operating-status reports. Incremental updates and resumed transfers keep large files from failing halfway.

Commercial cleaning

Cleaning robots for malls, hotels, office towers, and hospitals. Where there is no Wi-Fi, 4G carries task dispatch, path planning, and remote monitoring.

Typical Use Cases

Home cleaning

Floor cleaning at home, on Wi-Fi plus 4G, with remote control while the owner is out

Malls and hotels

Large-floor cleaning on 4G, with no new cabling, and tasks dispatched from the cloud

Office towers

Overnight cleaning of office floors, unattended, watched from a remote console

Hospitals and cleanrooms

Cleaning of controlled areas, with a disinfection module and a recorded path

Connectivity Notes

Each robot vacuum uses 50–200 MB a month, spent mainly on map uploads, OTA updates, remote control, and status reports. Commercial cleaning robots travel farther and often have no Wi-Fi, so their 4G use sits at the high end of that range. SimtoLink supplies 4G IoT SIMs, a data pool, and APIs into smart-home and robot cloud platforms. A home unit can run Wi-Fi plus 4G, and use 4G for remote control while the owner is away. A commercial unit stays on 4G so the session holds while it crosses a large floor.
