Vehicle Video Surveillance Solution

Several cameras on a commercial vehicle · ADAS · driver behavior · about 2–10 GB a month per vehicle

Vehicle video surveillance overview

Built on the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and a cloud platform, this solution gives commercial vehicles, buses, taxis, ride-hailing cars, and logistics fleets video from several cameras, ADAS driver assistance, driver behavior analysis for fatigue and distraction, a driving record, and remote playback. A vehicle typically uses 2–10 GB a month, which is a high-volume link. SimtoLink supplies high-volume 4G/5G IoT SIMs, a shared data pool, and a VPDN private network, and the service connects to an FMS fleet system and an insurer's UBI platform.

Commercial-vehicle crashes are common, and fatigue and distraction are leading causes. The Ministry of Transport requires two-passenger-and-one-hazard vehicles to carry an intelligent video alarm. The solution covers video, ADAS, behavior, and storage and playback. Cameras face forward, into the cab, and into the cargo area, and send video live or on demand for supervision and for tracing an incident. ADAS warns of a forward collision, a lane departure, and a blind spot. AI flags fatigue, such as a yawn or closed eyes, and distraction, such as a phone, smoking, or a call, with a live alert and a record afterward. Storage is an SD card plus the cloud, with incident video, event search, and remote playback. It fits logistics trucks, buses, taxis, ride-hailing cars, dump trucks, and hazardous-goods fleets, and it connects to traffic supervision, insurers, and an FMS.

Rules and standards

The Ministry of Transport's Measures for the Dynamic Supervision and Administration of Road Transport Vehicles require two-passenger-and-one-hazard vehicles — scheduled buses, chartered buses, and hazardous-goods vehicles — to carry an intelligent video alarm for forward collision, lane departure, fatigue, and phone use. JT/T 1078, the video communication protocol for satellite positioning systems on road transport vehicles, sets how onboard video talks to the management platform. Some regions also require dump trucks and heavy trucks to install the equipment. Usage-based insurance prices a policy from driving behavior and needs the video and behavior data. The solution has to meet the platform connection, a compliant data format, and video that can be traced.

How to keep data use down

A vehicle uses about 2–10 GB a month. Several cameras and a live stream use more. Ways to hold it down: event-triggered upload — send video only on an alarm or a crash, and keep ordinary driving on the local card; adaptive bitrate — change the bitrate with the network; channel selection — play back one camera instead of uploading every camera at once; a shared data pool — pool the fleet so one SIM is less likely to run over. SimtoLink supplies high-volume SIMs, a data pool, and a VPDN private network, with links to FMS, supervision, and insurance platforms.

Core modules

From the camera through the analysis

Video from several cameras

Cameras facing forward, into the cab, and into the cargo area, live or on demand, with channel switching and event-triggered upload.

ADAS driver assistance

Forward-collision warning, lane departure, and blind-spot monitoring, so fewer crashes, and the regulatory requirement is met.

Driver behavior

Alerts for fatigue, distraction, smoking, and phone calls, pushed live and kept for later review.

Remote playback and storage

Incident video, event search, and cloud storage, with links to an FMS and an insurer's UBI platform.
