Development History and Milestones
Chunghwa Telecom's predecessor can be traced back to Taiwan's telecommunications industry in 1943, going through the era of the Ministry of Transportation's Directorate General of Telecommunications. In July 1996, it was corporatized as Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd., and in October 2000, it was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. In 2005, it completed privatization, with government shareholding reduced to about 35%.
In terms of mobile communications: 2G GSM services were launched in 1997; 3G in the 2000s; 4G LTE in 2014; and commercial 5G services in 2020. Chunghwa Telecom has long maintained the number one position in Taiwan's mobile market, with postpaid user ARPU consistently leading competitors. 2024 revenue hit a seven-year high, with EPS reaching 4.80 TWD.
On IoT, Chunghwa Telecom launched the HiCloud platform and supports NB-IoT and LTE-M. It takes part in Taiwan's smart-city pilots, including projects in agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare, and connects factories in the semiconductor and electronics supply chain.
