Singtel Overview
Singtel (Singapore Telecommunications) is one of the largest multinational telecom groups in Asia-Pacific. It is based in Singapore and holds major stakes in Australia (Optus), India (a leading shareholder in Bharti Airtel), Indonesia (Telkomsel), and the Philippines (Globe Telecom). Singapore's digital economy and Smart Nation programme give Singtel a base for IoT and enterprise digital services.
Singtel's IoT services are provided through its KITE (Konnect IoT Transaction Engine) platform, supporting full lifecycle management of SIM cards. Leveraging extensive network partnerships across the Asia-Pacific, Singtel's IoT SIMs enable seamless roaming in major countries and regions in Asia.

Development History and Milestones
Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) was established in 1879, originally as the Singapore Telegraph Department, and over more than 140 years evolved into Singapore's largest integrated telecommunications operator. In 1992, Singtel acquired Optus, Australia's second-largest operator, entering the Oceania market; in 2001, it invested in India's Bharti Airtel; in 2006, it acquired shares of the Philippines' Globe Telecom, forming a "telecom alliance" network covering many countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with a total user base exceeding 700 million.
Key milestones in the development of IoT: In 2019, Singtel was the first to commercially deploy a 5G network in Singapore; in 2021, Singtel launched the Paragon 5G Network Open Platform, becoming the first platform in the Asia-Pacific region to open 5G network capabilities to third-party developers; in 2022, it signed IoT roaming agreements with multiple global operators, achieving unified management of IoT SIMs across networks in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Americas; in 2023, Singtel became one of the first global operators to achieve nationwide commercial 5G SA (standalone) coverage.
Singapore's Smart Nation programme and Singtel
Singapore's Smart Nation programme has given Singtel a place to run IoT in production. Singtel is involved in smart energy, smart transport, smart healthcare (remote patient monitoring), and smart ports (automation at Singapore's ports). Those projects are the base for city-scale IoT work that Singtel has also taken to other cities in Southeast Asia. It is one of the operators in Asia-Pacific whose IoT deployments other cities look at.
