Definition
SIM binding attaches an IoT SIM to a personal account, so one person can hold several SIMs. The ways in are a QR code, the number plus ICCID, or a batch import. Real-name registration has to pass first. Unbind and rebind are both supported.
How the link is made
- Scan: The card or the pack carries a QR code. Scanning it binds the SIM. This is the path user self-service offers a consumer.
- Type the number and the ICCID: The user enters MSISDN and ICCID. The platform checks ownership and status, then binds.
- Import: An enterprise or an agent uploads an Excel list and binds many SIMs to users at once. This fits B2B.
Rules around the link
Real-name registration comes first, which is what the SIM real-name rule requires. After binding, the user can see status, the data plan, and the bill, and can renew or request a plan change. Unbind removes the account. Rebind moves the SIM to another account. Unbind is refused while charges are still open.
Binding after a channel sale
In B2B2C, an agent or a distributor may sell the SIM to a consumer. That person finishes real-name registration and binding in user self-service. The bind checks ownership: whether the SIM was allocated to this channel, and whether this user may take it. One user can hold many SIMs. One SIM is bound to one user. The link is what sales attribution and the share calculation read, so it has to stay accurate.
Binding as the door into self-service
Binding is how someone enters user self-service. After real-name registration, they scan a code or type ICCID and MSISDN. They can then see status, the data plan, and the bill, and can place a plan order, a plan change, or a renewal. Unbind checks that nothing is still owed. A rebind waits until the first user has unbound. The link is also a dimension of card lifecycle and of card information query.
Why the real-name step cannot be skipped
The real-name rule requires real-name registration before the SIM is bound. The binding is what traces sales attribution, so settlement revenue share or payment split lands on the right channel. In B2B2C, a consumer cannot manage the SIM until this link exists. Together with user self-service on the IoT Cloud Platform, a plan order, and WeChat Pay or Alipay, it closes the consumer path.
The three ways, restated for the operator
Scan the code printed on the card or the pack, type the number plus the ICCID, or import a list. Real-name registration still comes first. After the link exists, the user can see status, the data plan, and the bill, and can renew or request a plan change. Unbind and rebind are both available, and unbind stops if the SIM still has an open charge. For an IoT SIM, this link is what makes the SIM belong to a person who can manage it.
