ICCID

The 19- or 20-digit identity printed on the SIM

Definition

ICCID (Integrated Circuit Card Identifier) is the identity of an IoT SIM. It is usually 19 or 20 digits and is printed on the card. On the IoT Cloud Platform it is the main key for card information query and for batch work.

Where it is used

How it differs from MSISDN

MSISDN is the number used to reach the SIM. ICCID is the physical identity, and it usually does not change. The platform can search on either. An operator API call usually has to send the ICCID.

Shape and the check before save

An ICCID is usually 19 or 20 digits, printed on the IoT SIM, and sometimes carried in a QR code. The platform should reject a value that does not match that shape, so a mistyped digit does not create a second SIM. Operators, the platform, and the device all identify the SIM by it. Stock-in, activation, plan provisioning, and operator reconciliation all depend on it. A batch takes an ICCID list as its main input.

ICCID next to the number people quote

ICCID and MSISDN are the two identities of the same SIM. A user reporting a fault usually quotes the MSISDN. A batch and an operator API call usually send the ICCID. Card information query accepts either. SIM binding can be completed by typing the ICCID. The field is what card lifecycle, data billing, and an agent SIM pool join on. It has to match the operator’s copy, or provisioning and reconciliation will miss the SIM.

The same identifier through stock, service, and the bill

The 19 or 20 digits are printed on the IoT SIM and can also be read from a code. A format check stops a bad entry. The operator, the platform, and the device all treat it as the network-wide identity. Stock-in, activation, plan provisioning, and operator reconciliation each look it up. When the work is a batch, the file of ICCIDs is the input those jobs expect.
