2degrees IoT

New Zealand's third-largest mobile operator

2degrees Overview

2degrees is the third-largest mobile operator in New Zealand, founded in 2001 and officially launched commercially in 2009, becoming New Zealand's third mobile operator and breaking the duopoly of Spark and Vodafone. Upon entering the market, 2degrees implemented a major price-cutting strategy, halving call and SMS prices overnight, which significantly drove down mobile rates in New Zealand. In 2015, it acquired Snap's broadband business to enter the fixed-line market, and in 2022 it merged with Vocus, integrating fixed-line, mobile, and energy businesses.

2degrees' network covers 98.5% of areas where New Zealanders live and work, with 2,156 base stations and 4,600 kilometers of its own fiber. By 2024, 5G coverage expanded to over 28% nationwide. FY2024 revenue was 1.34 billion NZD, with an EBITDA of 339 million NZD.

In 2015 it bought Snap's broadband business and entered fixed line. In 2022 it merged with Vocus, combining fixed, mobile, and energy into a diversified telecom and energy group. Integration continued after the merger.
