Development History and Milestones

The history of AT&T dates back to 1875 when Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. Bell Telephone Company was established in 1877, and after multiple splits and reorganizations, modern AT&T was formed in 1983 through the merger and reorganization of AT&T Corp and SBC Communications. During AT&T's long history, Bell Labs has been one of the world's most important technology research institutions, where world-changing inventions such as the transistor, laser, and Unix operating system were born.

On IoT, AT&T launched Control Center in 2013, with Jasper supplying the platform, and was among the first US carriers to offer enterprise IoT connection management. In 2016 the US government authorized it to build FirstNet, the only nationwide public-safety network. It was the first in the US to launch commercial LTE-M in 2017, deployed a nationwide NB-IoT network in 2018, and in 2022 said IoT connections had passed 200 million.

AT&T Control Center

AT&T Control Center is an IoT connectivity platform built on Jasper. The page states that it serves tens of thousands of enterprise customers and manages hundreds of millions of SIMs. Functions listed include live SIM status, alerts and automated actions (including throttling when usage exceeds the plan), one view of SIMs in several countries, usage and billing reports, and a REST API. It supports multi-tenant accounts for groups that need separate administration layers.
