Selection at a Glance

  • Electromagnetic induction measures instantaneous flow and the total of a conductive liquid, for wastewater, chemicals, and water mains.
  • RS485 and DL/T645 (see the table) go into SCADA, billing, or a leakage platform.
  • There are no moving parts, so it needs less care than a mechanical water meter. Keep the pipe full and the ground solid.
  • SimtoLink can supply a comparison sheet for liner material, electrode material, and excitation frequency.

Product Overview and Engineering Role

The SimtoLink electromagnetic flowmeter metering unit is for large-bore custody transfer and for process proportioning. It holds a stable signal across a wide turndown and with solids in the liquid, and it is a core sensing node for smart water and industrial circulating water.

SimtoLink advises on the straight pipe upstream and downstream, the grounding ring, and empty-pipe detection. It can sit with an ultrasonic heat meter and a pressure transmitter in an energy-monitoring chain.

Reliability and Site Conditions

On electrical safety and EMC, the unit has passed the salt-spray and vibration type-test items that apply. Ports have surge and reverse-polarity protection. A reinforced ground and a partitioned layout keep ground loops and common-mode noise down. Outdoor or coastal sites can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.

Parameters can be imported in a batch, thresholds can be set, and event video or waveforms can be kept when the model allows it. Configuration and firmware go out over OTA. On site, close three checks: a power-on self-test, time sync on the communications link, and a spot check of samples. For metering or safety duty, SimtoLink helps send the unit to a third-party metrology institute and supplies the type-test file.

Key Hardware Parameters

Figures in the table are this unit in a typical build, written so they can go into a selection note or a bid clause. A wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe explosion-proof variant comes with the Hardware Specification and the Installation and Commissioning Guide from SimtoLink. Sister order codes can differ a little; the nameplate and the documents in the carton govern.

Typical Deployments

How this unit is usually installed, for choosing a design and for the joint-test acceptance.

Plant Outlet and District Metering

Meter the water leaving the plant and the water entering a district, for non-revenue water and for minimum night flow.

Industrial Circulating Water

Watch flow on the cooling-tower and heat-exchanger loops, and tie it to dosing and blowdown.

Inlet and Outlet at a Wastewater Works

Total the flow at the pump station and through the process, and pair it with water-quality instruments for a load forecast.

Installation, Grounding, and Maintenance

  • Confirm the supply range and polarity before power is applied. If the feed is uncertain, measure bus voltage and check the breaker rating with a multimeter.
  • Use shielded twisted pair, bond the shield at one end, and do not run it in a long bundle with high-power cable.
  • In the lab, finish two-way read and write and the threshold triggers against the platform before the unit moves to site.
  • Outdoors, drainage and airflow come first. Inspect the sealing faces, and hold lightning-protection earth resistance to the local code.
  • In long service, spot-check samples and archive logs every 24 months.

Ordering, Documentation, and Support

What ships from SimtoLink is the hardware specification, an outline drawing, a wiring table, and a sample project. Volume buyers can book a sample review and an inspection on the factory floor. Warranty and calibration are set by the contract and by the papers that travel with the unit.
