Product Overview and Engineering Role

The SimtoLink electromagnetic flowmeter sensing unit is for process sensing on an IoT network. The figures on this page are there for selection, for a bid clause, and for a spot check in service. The measurement path and the communications path use an automotive-grade ASIC, so the reading stays predictable across wide temperature, a wide supply voltage, and electromagnetic interference. Terminals are pluggable, the key chips have a watchdog and a redundant check, and critical firmware can be signature-checked and rolled back, which is what volume delivery and remote maintenance need.

The default interface is isolated RS485 and a standard industrial connector, into an existing SCADA, energy-management, or IoT platform. SimtoLink supplies a southbound point-table template and a northbound MQTT/HTTP push example, so the joint test is shorter. Volume jobs can take enclosure silkscreen, a set harness length, a protocol map, and a calibration certificate.

Reliability and Site Conditions

On electrical safety and EMC, the unit has passed the salt-spray and vibration type-test items that apply. Ports have surge and reverse-polarity protection. A reinforced ground and a partitioned layout keep ground loops and common-mode noise down. Outdoor or coastal sites can take a higher ingress rating and a corrosion-resistant coating.

Software can load parameters in batches, set thresholds, and keep event video or waveforms when the model allows it. OTA carries both the configuration and the firmware. Site acceptance is three steps: a self-test at power-up, time alignment on the link, and a spot check of samples. Where the duty is metering or safety, SimtoLink helps with a third-party metrology submission and with the type-test papers.

Key Hardware Parameters

The table is this sensing unit in a typical build, for selection and for a bid clause. Ask SimtoLink for the Hardware Specification and the Installation and Commissioning Guide if you need a wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe explosion-proof variant. Order codes in the family can differ a little; the nameplate and the papers in the box govern.

Typical Deployments

Four ways this sensing unit is usually installed, for laying out a design and for judging the payback.

Water and Wastewater Plants

Meter conductive liquid on the inlet, the outlet, the return, and the dosing lines. Tie the reading to pump VFDs and a chemical-use model, so dosing can come down and the discharge stays inside the limit.

Acid, Alkali, and Salt in a Chemical Plant

Once the liner and the electrode match the fluid, the unit measures a strongly corrosive duty. The output stays in step with the DCS, for the recipe and for a safety interlock.

Chiller Plants and Cooling Stations

Meter energy on the chilled-water and cooling-water mains and branches, for the plant COP and for billing by quantity.

Irrigation Mains

Put the sensing unit at the pump-station outlet and on the main nodes, and read it with soil moisture and weather when you schedule irrigation.

Installation, Grounding, and Maintenance

  • Before you apply power, confirm the supply range and polarity. Check bus voltage and the breaker rating with a multimeter when the feed is not certain.
  • Run communications on shielded twisted pair, ground the shield at one end only, and keep it out of a long parallel run with high-power cable.
  • Prove two-way read and write and the threshold triggers against the platform in the lab before the first move to site.
  • Outdoors, get the water away and the air moving. Inspect the sealing faces on a schedule, and keep the lightning-protection earth inside the local code.
  • Once it is in continuous service, spot-check samples and archive logs every 12 months.

Ordering, Documentation, and Support

SimtoLink supplies the hardware specification, an outline drawing, a wiring table, and a sample project. Volume orders can include a sample review and inspection at the factory. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the documents shipped with the unit.
