Product overview and engineering role
The SimtoLink UHF RFID circularly polarized antenna is for an ISO 18000-6C / EPC Gen2 read-write link. Circular polarization cuts the mismatch that appears when a tag turns, so a portal, a workstation, or an open yard can read a batch of tags.
Gain, VSWR, and power handling in the table have to line up with reader output, cable loss, and the local radio rules. Height, tilt, and nearby metal change the read zone a lot. The hardware specification and a site survey govern.
Reliability and field fit
Metal racking, forklifts, and conveyors nearby create multipath and dead spots. Tune position, tilt, and power together, and at peak load test tag density and collisions.
Outdoors, waterproof the connectors and tie the feeder down. Leave reader-side power backoff and a VSWR alarm, so a long high-reflection condition does not damage the RF front end.
Key hardware parameters
The table is the typical RF and mechanical build of this antenna, for selection and for a technical clause in a tender. Another country’s band, another gain step, or another bracket is quoted separately; ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification and the installation and commissioning guide. Order codes in the family can differ. The nameplate and the papers shipped with the antenna govern.
| Parameter | Specification | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Band | 920~925 MHz (typical for China) | Other regions follow local rules |
| Gain | 6~12 dBi | Tied to far-field read range |
| VSWR | <1.5 | Typical frequency points |
| Polarization | Circular polarization (LHCP/RHCP and others) | Cuts tag-orientation mismatch |
| Impedance | 50 Ω | To the reader RF port |
| Power | Limited by the reader rating and the regulatory EIRP | Calculated for the job |
| Ingress | Indoor / outdoor builds | Outdoors, waterproof the connectors |
| Feeder | Low-loss coax (keep it short) | Hold insertion loss down |
| Operating temperature | -40~70 ℃ | The datasheet governs |
| Mounting | Bracket / ceiling / portal frame | Tilt and height set the read zone |
Typical applications
Four forms this antenna usually takes, for design and for judging the return:
Warehouse portal
Pallets and totes are read in a batch as they pass, and middleware filters the EPCs.
Line workstation
Fixtures bind themselves as they come on and off the line, so fewer codes are scanned by hand.
Forklifts and docks
A reader on the truck or on the portal frame stretches the read range and the coverage cone.
Vehicles and checkpoints
A fixed reader with circular polarization is less sensitive to how a plate or a tag is turned.
Installation, grounding, and maintenance
- Keep the reader, feeder, and antenna at one impedance. Tighten the connectors and waterproof them.
- Set EIRP and duty cycle to the local rules, so adjacent channels are not disturbed.
- With several antennas, isolate the reader ports and set the sync, so the system does not oscillate or misread.
- Near metal, map the read zone in three dimensions first, then lock the bracket and the tilt.
- On rounds, check the feeder for wear and the connectors for oxidation, and keep a baseline of power and misread rate.
Ordering, documentation, and support
SimtoLink can supply the hardware specification, outline drawings, a wiring table, and an example project for this antenna. Volume orders can include a sample review and inspection at the factory. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the papers shipped with the antenna.
