Product overview and engineering role

The SimtoLink supercapacitor buffer supply uses a high power-density store to take up a brief bus sag and a pulse load. It holds a regulated rail for milliseconds to seconds for a servo drive, a solenoid manifold, or a gate, and it can sit as the short tier beside a lithium UPS or the grid.

Ratings follow the nameplate and the hardware specification. SimtoLink can provide charge and discharge curves, a life note, and a derating note. Volume orders can set the capacitor string and the terminal style.

Reliability and field fit

Electrical-safety and EMC items follow industry practice. The supply hiccups on a short circuit and shuts down on overtemperature. The build leaves room for heat and for creepage.

Size the pulse-current peak and the duty cycle so the capacitor stays inside its temperature rise and voltage window. Before it goes into service, SimtoLink recommends a step-load test and an insulation spot check.

Key hardware parameters

The table is a typical build of this buffer supply, for a selection note or a tender clause. A wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe version is quoted separately; ask SimtoLink for the hardware specification and the installation and commissioning guide. Order codes in the family can differ slightly. The nameplate and the papers in the carton govern.

Typical applications

Four jobs this buffer supply is usually bought for, so a design and a return case can be written against them:

Servos and valve manifolds

It takes the current spike when several axes accelerate together, so the main supply and the cables see less stress.

Turnstiles and platform screen doors

A high pulse current at the instant the door opens, so the control bus does not collapse.

Base stations and RF front ends

It smooths the bus swing from a transmit burst, which helps power-amplifier efficiency.

Alongside a lithium UPS

The supercapacitor takes pulses inside a second. The lithium pack holds the longer outage, so cycle life lasts longer.

Installation, grounding, and maintenance

  • Connect bus and load with the marked polarity. Do not mate or unmate a high-current terminal while it is live.
  • Keep the air path around the capacitor bank open. In heat, run on the derating curve.
  • Measure equivalent series resistance and capacity loss on a schedule, and plan a replacement as the life threshold approaches.
  • On a long shutdown, discharge or hold voltage as the specification says, so the pack does not sit overvoltage.
  • In parallel with the main supply, confirm the precharge path and the inrush limiter are intact.

Ordering, documentation, and support

A hardware specification, outline drawings, a wiring table, and an example project are available for this buffer supply. Volume orders can include a sample review and inspection on the factory floor. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the documents packed with the unit.
