Volume Discount

Usage Discount

Definition

Volume Discount (Usage Discount) refers to a price discount given based on usage scale or purchase volume; the larger the usage, the higher the discount. Combined with Tiered Pricing, it supports discounts for large customers, Reseller channel discounts, and incentivizes customers to increase usage and purchase volume. In the International IoT Cloud Platform (ICMP), Volume Discount is a common configuration method in the Rate Card, suitable for scenarios such as Pooled Data, Shared Bucket, and bulk purchases.

Working Principle

Volume Discount is usually set according to usage tiers or purchase amount tiers. For example: 0–10GB per month has no discount, 10–50GB enjoys a 10% discount, and 50GB+ enjoys a 20% discount. When billing, the total usage is matched to the tier according to Usage Aggregation, and the corresponding discount is applied. The difference from Tiered Pricing is that Tiered Pricing sets different unit prices per tier, while Volume Discount usually applies a proportional discount based on the base price. The two can be used together, such as calculating first with Tiered Pricing and then applying Volume Discount to large-volume customers.

Use Cases

Typical scenarios include: Key Account Incentives—enterprise customers and Resellers receive discounts after reaching a certain usage scale, boosting retention and ARPU; Pooled Data and Shared Bucket—the larger the pool usage, the lower the unit price, incentivizing customers to expand the pool; Bulk Purchases—giving discounts for one-time purchases of large quantities of SIMs or data packages; TCO Optimization—customers analyze usage through Usage Analytics, optimizing purchase tiers to obtain better discounts.

Practice in ICMP

SimtoLink ICMP's Rate Card supports Volume Discount configuration, allowing differentiated discount tiers to be set by customer, Reseller, or project. Combined with Usage Aggregation and Usage Analytics, customers can estimate discounts and total costs under different usage levels. The platform supports Unified Invoice billing based on discounted prices, meeting corporate financial requirements. Working with Tiered Pricing and Geo-Based Pricing, it forms a flexible pricing system, supporting business expansion and customer retention in cross-border connectivity management.
